Anyone Race MWSM?

Middleweight Sportsman? Anyone race it? Especially at Blackhawk?

Since I'm selling the SV, I will be probably throwing some suspension on my CB750 and racing that a few times next year.  :D

Looking for what laptimes are winning for the AMs? Even if you're not winning, what bike are you on, what lap times are you running at BHF?

If not from MW, do you think a CB750 (540 lbs wet, 65-70 HP) could hang with MWSM bikes?

I raced MWSM this season in the expert class.

It's a fun class with an interesting variety of bikes. At Blackhawk there's a strong core group of Ducati racers, along with a few FZR 400/560s, Honda Hawks, Aprila 250/316s and Buell Firebolt XB9Rs.

In the expert class, we were running in the low 18s to high 17s at the front. I think Gary Palmer (Duc 750) even got into the 16s by the end of the year.

Not sure what the AMs were running for lap times. But I don't think there were very many on the grid, either. Come on out!

I raced MWSM my first few years on a Sporster 883. When I was racing that class there were a butt load of people in it. I switched to the Buell M2 so I cannot race it any more but my team mate Mike raced it all season this year. At the most there were like 5 Am. on the grid. I have seen as few as 2. If you can run 1:22"s or there abouts you should do great! (Makes me sometimes wish I was still on the Sportie!) NOT!!!!!! lol Any how, run the class, you should do great Nate!

Mark. How many HP was the sportser making? Was the weight down pretty good? Lap times? (Range, like started at 1:50, got down to 1:25, or what?)

Curious. My best on teh SV was a 1:27.9, and I think the CB should be cabable of faster than that.

I doubt that a CB 750 would be faster than a good SV at Blackhawk. 540lbs wet! That's like 100lbs heavier than my XB9, which is about 80lbs heavier than Key's SV!

The sportie was puting out 85 HP. Not exactly sure what it weighed in at. I never had it on the scales. (It was a tank tho!) It still had the charging system and starter in it so it was a rather heavy bike. I weigh 170 figure the bike to be at least 460+ lb. As far as lap times, I guess I was running somewhere around 1:44-5s at first. Got it down to high 1:29s before I bought the M-2. I've got it down to a high 1:22 as of the last BHF. Seemed to hit a barrier at 1:22. So I have my work cut out for me. Seeing the grids for the MWSM last season makes me want to get a Buell XB9 so I can run that class again and mop up! lol Any how, I hope this helps a little.....

I'd agree.  Nate, until you get the weight down and the set up figured out, the SV is going to be way superior.

Agreed. No way a CB would outrun an SV. But, an SV in SS trim can do 1:18s or better. I was only doing 1:27.9 I think I can improve my skills a bit next year, and maybe get the lap times a bit faster than I was going on the SV.

Well, Jesse Janisch did a 1:15.1 on his SV after I told him he could go faster.

Having enough money to do all the little things might be the trick.  I'm sure you remember all those ideas we talked about.

WP quoted me about $440 for a pair of rear shocks in the length of my choice. Only 1 real adjustment, though. Basically a lever that changes between 2 preload settings.
