I've seen some guys running motorcrossers at Streets and Firebird.

Can you let me know what you did to race-prep it (catch can etc.). I'm thinking of trying a local Super Moto series in the Winter and the tech rules seem similar to CCS.

If you're in Phoenix, swing by Helmut Harbor and talk to Kyle Scott, he's got a WR motard.

Once you get the 17" wheels and big front brake, they're pretty easy to prep.  Belly pan is the biggest hassle, I know Brandon Yoder (YZ426) got by with an aluminum turkey baster pan for one race, but tech warned him they wouldn't let it slide again.  On a two-stroke a belly pan is not required.  Oil breather catch can is really the same as any other bike, and you'll have to add a coolant catch can on most dirt bikes.  CCS requires the kick starter to be retained so it can't fold out, I've seen people just use a loop of saftey wire they slide over the top once the bike is started.  Be sure to wire the oil check bolt if you have one in addition to the fill and drain.

I rode a supermoto race at Arroyo Seco last weekend, so now I'm contemplating 17" wheels for my CR250 (I just rode with street tires on the stock motocross rims).  I'd be tempted to run ultra-lightweight sportsman on it...

Brandon Yoder owns a bike shop called MotoTech in Gilbert Az......he built both of those tards Zac was mentioning. I think he is bike #511 in the CCS SW region.

His number is:
(602) 380-5385

Zac, that Supermoto exhibition looked like so much fun.........you could barely see the riders because of the dust. Glad those knobbies held up for you.

Zac

Hey Brian, at least I didn't actually have knobbies on the bike for the race.  I had a 10 year old Cheng Shin tire on the back that was on Elaine's Vintage CL 450 before we put on the race rubber.  The front was a Dunlop 21" x skinny that actually said "Harley Davidson" on the side.  My plan was to have more front end traction that rear, 'cause I felt I could deal with a sliding rear without too much problem on that bike.  Worked well until about the 3rd lap of the Sunday race, I had a water pump seal start leaking, causing oily water to boil out of the tranny breather and onto the rear tire.  That kept my pavement speed about equal to Shreve on the XR100...

Thanks for the update on Brandon's shop, I didn't realize he was in business yet.

Hey Brian, how ya feeling?  I got a front-row seat at watching your bike auger into the ground that practice session.   :o  That was scary!  Don't do that again, ok?   ;)  How's the bike?

Yeah, the supermoto was cool to watch from the spectator standpoint.  It'll be neat once they get the water truck out there.  We'll see how serious Zac gets into it.   ;)

If anyone's interested, here's the link to the ASMA site & their supermoto races, which will start next month.  http://www.asmaracing.com/Supermotoinfo.html

Elaine, I'm in pretty rough shape...sprained knee, sprained both ankles, beat up my feet and shoulder pretty bad. I'm on crutches.

The bike is okay.....you can't kill an SV, lord knows I've tried.

I'm a little pissed about what happened, but in the end it always could have been worse.
