I've heard of many street riders using silicone on the joints of their slip-on to seal it. Is this really necessary? my pipe isn't leaking much air, and I'd rather not pull it apart to seal it. Should I, though?

I've always sealed my exhaust joints, it makes sense, but I don't know that you would actually notice a performance difference unless you had a significant exhaust leak.  I used to use hi-temp silicone, but now I use a Silkolene sealer that's made for joints in high temp gas systems.  I think it's called 762 or something like that, you can get it from www.silkolenestore.com.  I've even used it at the exhaust manifold to header pipe flange instead of the gasket on my car, it works great.
