QuoteSmooth flow means to us, that as bikes exit the first turn there are no gaps.  The second wave closed on the first wave at the entrance to the first turn, based on timing and density, while avoiding a massive traffic jam.

That sounds resonable.

I believe that they wait until all bikes have safely cleared the 1st turn before releasing the 2nd wave so they don't have a 2nd group plowing into turn 1 in the event that a bike(s) went down from the 1st wave.

What is the track density at Barber? Is it 80 bikes like RA and Daytona? It looks wide enough in the pictures to support that large of grids.

Bill,

I met you a few times with Buck last year @ WERA events.  You're thinking about CCS MA events which have a much higher turnout than the CCS SE events.  I would be very surprised to find 40-50 AM grids next weekend.  However with the central region coming I could be wrong.

We complained about the same thing earlier this year and the 2 wave starts have been much better, with everyone having a shot.

You're fast enough, you'll be fine.

See you next week.

We have only had the EX/AM two wave start scenario here, but we usually catch the back of the experts about 1/2 way through the first lap.  I would hope it would be closer together if it was an all AM or all EX two waver.

I usually have no problem catching at least half of the first wave from second wave before turn 5 at summit and turn 7-9 at VIR. if you are qualified as a front runner, then you will have no problem mixing it up with the first wave.

But to catch the leader is another issue. I timed a 7-10 second disadvantage during first lap between leader of the first wave and second wave. If I can do 1 second a lap faster than the leader, 6 laps are not long enough to catch up.

But if you know you are fast, register early. if you can't for this year, too late, save the money you have now and register for next year. If you are so fast, you are going to get noticed and win races. Or be an Expert and race FUSA and get in timed qualifying.
