I really don't want to see open bikes allowed in Formula 40.  As it is, there is everything from lightweight bikes on up.  Lightweights really don't have much of a chance against 750's.

I like this class and want to see it be popular.  I think open class bikes would put a damper on the class because noone would have a chance!  I don't want to have to buy and race an open class bike!

Quite frankly, what do we have to gain by letting them in, very few of the old guys even have them, and it would only chase away all the guys that are somewhat competitive on the smaller stuff, What chance would I have on my 125 on any track in the country vs. a litre bike, its hard enough vs the 600's.

A couple heavy horsepower cherrypickers ALWAYS taking the top spots will drive away lesser horsepower bikes/riders.

How about F40LW & F40HW, run together scored separately. Otherwise it's gonna suck. Riding an SV in F40 is OK on most tracks, but with the big guns in it, I for one would probably pass on it. Plus, most old guys should probably stay away from 150 HP bikes. Ask your Orthopedic guy what he thinks.

Just an observation....  Don't 600s normally run at the front of HW classes anyway?  They seem to, on the west coast.  I'd be far more concerned about the fast guys on 600s, than the average open class rider.

I think the problem with the liter bikes is there ability to make passing more difficult than it should be.  They can generally put a ton of distance between themselves and the smaller bikes on most medium to long straights and the slower bikes will have to really get on the brakes late to make up that ground to have a chance of getting around.  I picture the Formula 40 being for people that don't want to have to take extra chances to pass someone.

Thanks Sean for the open minded opinion. maybe they should set the class as everyone entering the class can only have 125cc bikes....      I'll bet the same guys that are winning the class will still be winning the class.
     Just for kicks, any of you Formula 40 racers, check the times of the Unlimited Supersport racers against the times you are turning and I think the surprise will be that you won't be afraid of open-class bikes anymore.
     The up side of opening to liter bikes is there are a lot of older bikers with open-class bikes that don't race at all because they don't want to race or truthfully are embarrassed to race against younger riders who will make them look really slow.
     I personally am going to trade down in size of bike to race in the Am Formula 40 class. I think it is good that the racers in that class have a say in the decision of what size bikes are allowed BUT I also feel it to be selfish to exclude other bikes because you have personal fears that you won't be winning all the time on your GSXR750. Stop and think about the guys on SV650s. They feel that way about you....

I race a Aprilia RS 250, last year F40 was fun, this year it is all big bore stuff.  I won't race f40 in the current or proposed format.  I liked the idea of f40 LW and f40HW.  I would also like to see a F50, now that I am 15 years past 40.  As soon as I can figure out where the rules section is I am going to vote.
