Is it OK to race, say, GT Lights on a 4 cylinder 600CC bike, just to get the track time...as long as you pull off before the finish?

I ask because they let the Tularis in MWGP, and even the announcer knew it wasn't legal for that class.

Apparently, the rules are different for Pros  >:(

there was a r6 in middle weight sportsman this weekend and a sv in lt. wt.sportsman,I dont think anybody checks to see what you are registered for when you go through tech.

That was discussed in the rider's meeting at Summit today.  Monetary fine can be assessed.

It may not be your race, but it's somebody elses and your not helping if you arn't even in the class. It's bad enough when experts and amatures get in each others way. I'm trying to catch the guy in front of me, the guy behind me is working me and then comes a new obstacle that doesn't even belong. Please run the appropriate classes only.

The guy at pit out SHOULD be stopping them if they know they are not legal to be in that class. You can race up a class, but not down. But sometimes bikes get by them. Cant really blame them though. The rider should know better.

Ride up a class and start in the back if you want more track time.  Heck, I rode up to MW GP and started from the pole..lol.  Wound up battling for 9th-10th (last) and had a ton of fun out there.  We were in no danger of being lapped and it was well worth it to me.

13.2.4 addresses competing without meeting equipment standards, not class rules.

I know I cna ride up, always have.  the advantage may be say GTL was before GTU and before GTO.  I want some track time at race pace before the GTU event.  So, I enter the GTL....

Look, I'm not saying it's right or that I personally would do it, like I said the reason this popped into my head was the Tularis in MWGP.

Have you ever been leading and had a slow expert start racing you? It sucks. They, at the time aren't thinking about how much you are being held up. Even though it may be good race experience, you'll probably end up cussing to yourself or having to run over your head to get away from him. At pace, do you know what motor sombody has or if you have to get past him to win? It makes the whole race more dangerous for everybody.

Racing in a class that you are not legal for?  Why would anyone do that?  First off, like some have said it is not fair to the guys who are racing for points, you get the way one way or another.

It is also unethical.  As racers we trust eachother with our equipment (leaving it over night at the track), not to cheat, to loan parts out to someone in need, and not to endanger eachothers lives.  In this sport there is, IMO, an expectation for us to be good moral / ethical character while at teh track.  IMO racing in a class you are not legal in is cheating, you are not supposed to be on the track!

I am not Moses or anything, I dont mean to preach but, come on follow the rules, dont be so selfish.  Sorry for the preaching guys and gals!
