Hey guys - do any of you have a broken transponder that is worthless to you? I'm going to try and 'rig up' a hardwired version off of a broken battery one.  I'll be at NJMP and VIR and if it's no skin off your back - I'll get you a beer and one of my wife's chocolate chip cookies in exchange.

Damn, I wish I wouldve seen this earlier. I have a broken one if you want it. Was at NJMP too with it, but didnt know you were looking for one. If you still need one, let me know and I can mail it to ya.

Still hoping to get a dead transponder.  There's only so much time left in the winter to experiment.

I have one for you. I don't know if it's dead or not tho.

but you can certainly kill it if you'd like to.  :spank:

Out of curiosity, is there anyway to check them at home to see if they will activate? Or is this only something you can do at a race?

Well, I was screwing around with my transponder.  I took it apart to see what battery was in it.  Pretty easy to take apart.  Two screws hidden behind the labels.  One on each side.

While sitting by my laptop, which has the two metal sensors for a finger print reader, my transponder semi activated.  Not sure what is going on, but I think when the wireless sends or receives info it kinda turns the thing on.  It won't stay on though.

Since it is time for me to get a new one I am going to try getting this and this and see if I can get that to work.

That seems like too much work. I'd just pay Westhold the 20 bucks for them to give you a new battery.

Capitalview

Maybe.  But once done I can change my battery anytime for the cost of the battery.

Curious about this project, I just opened up an older one to verify the battery was still good, luckily it is.

It would be extremely easy to install a voltage converter/regulator to bring 12vdc from the bike down to the 3.6vdc the transponder needs. However, unlike the Westhold hardwired transponder, you will still need to "activate" it. If you can figure out how to keep it activated that would be nice.
