The animal community just became publically aware of an atrocity going on.

You all know I raise raccoons, but this is not just about raccoons, it is about animal abuse & torture.

Raccoon hunting =
1) Pack of blood-lusting dogs chasing a raccoon through the woods until it climbs a tree to safety.
2) The (so called) hunter shooting the coon in the ass (only wounding him), to make him fall out of the tree (they fall anywhere from 20-60+ feet).
3) Reward for the dogs is to kill the raccoon.
4) Killing the raccoon entails the raccoon being bitten, shook, broken spinal cord, de-bowled, de-limbed, etc, etc, etc....this normally takes a quite a few minutes.
5) The screams the raccoon makes during this is heartbreaking and unbearable.
6) This hunting occurs during baby season....so you can guess that 50% of coons killed are females (each leaving behind litters of 4-7 babies who will starve to death over the next 5 days).
People like me are forced to care for victims of this, when the litters are lucky enough to be found.  Each litter costs thousands of dollars to raise, plus lots of lost work/wages.

Raccoon hunting is not hunting....this is cruelty, this is torture, this is animal abuse at it's worst.
To enjoy watching dogs literally tear another animal apart while it screams in terror & agony, is pure sadistic.
For us dog lovers who cringe at the thought of 'dog fighting', and are appalled/disgusted when thinking about the Michael Vick horrors.....this is no different.  The only difference is, it is raccoons being mauled to death, instead of a dog.
University proven & a scientific fact....raccoons have the same cognitive-level (intelligence) and emotional capacity of a 3 year old child.  They are smarter than the smartest of dogs....they have more understanding of their 'self/surroundings' than a dog.  They have more emotional capacity than dogs.

Raccoons are very social animals and live in packs.
In my experience raising litters of coons, when the group wanders off to play in the woods in my backyard, and a single coon wanders in a different direction, he will start to frantically cry when he realizes he is not with his family.....when the pack of coons hear this, they go on a mission to find and reunite with the lost coon.

Once last summer one of my girls got out of the cage and "made a run for it" ....she climbed a tree in my backyard and stayed there till the next morning.  When she got out of the cage and went up the tree, the 3 other coons went crazy....they threw their food bowls, litter pans, water pans, all their toys....they tore the cage apart screaming and crying for hours....all because they had lost their sister.  They are incredibly social, incredibly caring for the rest of their family....just like a dog.
Another story of love and friendship.  I released a litter of four last fall....I went back a month later to throw some food out for them.  After a month they have completely converted to 100% wild animals.  I was sitting in the grass by the pond I released them at, just chilling.  Out of the Tall grass came one of my boys (Picasso)....he gave me a couple sniffs, then climbed into my lap, put his arms on my shoulders and gave me kisses.  When I got up and started walking around the pond, he followed me just like your dog would do.
When it was time for me to go, I put him in a tree and ran, so he couldn't follow me.....these are wonderful emotional filled, loving and caring animals.  No different than your loving pet dog(s).

The AKC which is a HUGE supporter of coon-hunting and holds coon-hunting events, puts on a 3-day hunting competition annually.
It has been going on for 37 years.
AKC's "Worlds Largest Coon Hunt for St Jude Children's Hospital" is a weekend of torture.
Coons held in small cages while packs of dogs try to get through the cage as the coons are terrorized.
Then there are the 'night hunts'.....where the fun really begins....spectators are not allowed to go along and watch the night hunts.

I am all for St Jude Children's Hospital and all the amazing heartfelt work they do.
But I am not for holding an 'animal-abuse' festival to raise funds.  There are so many alternatives to raise donations.... not requiring the torture of intelligent animals and that do not leave orphan animals to starve to death.

And it goes beyond the event itself, it is also what the event represents....'that animal torture and mutilation is OK.....a good thing done by good people who are trying to help kids'.
That philosophy says that it is OK to torture, terrorize and abuse animals, for profit.
The fact is, it would be easier to just write donations directly to St Jude instead of torturing the animals.  But the hunters enjoy watching the animals ripped apart.  THis whole event is a facade....smoke and mirrors, to try and gain suppurt for their medival sport.  Just like when the Hell's Angels used to have big fundraisers for childrens hospitals....It is bad people doing good PR work, to make them look like they are doing good in this world.
AKC and St Jude are joined at the hip with this annual event.

St Jude has been contacted for using alternative methods, about contractually matching the annual event's $$$ by animal lovers to put an end to this event....but it has fallen on deaf ears.
St Jude is aware of all of the details, and they still support it.  Apparently, they would rather support their 37-year relationship w/ the AKC "hunt", instead of taking the same amount of money from others to stop the event.

This year a grass-roots effort is underway, to try and get this event stopped....to expose AKC for what it is....to Expose St Jude for it's part in this.....to get it stopped.
To then create a new type of event to raise funds, like a Chilli Cook Off or such....or just straight donation commitments from the animal community.
Within the last week, a National animal-abuse organization has been informed, and is getting ready to doing an investigation into this event.
Also, a well known actor on the Animal Channel has been contacted and is offering his support.

I am literally begging all of my motorcycle friends to please watch these videos.  Turn up the volume, brace yourselves and force yoursef to watch them in there entirety....the abused animals deserve that.

Raccoons are amazing animals....If any of you were to be lucky enough to play with a domesticated, or orphaned/rehabbed raccoon....you would fall in love.
I beg all of you, please try and help.
Thank you.
