Heard a rumor Gateway was going to be open in 2012. Is the Midwest going back there? We could increase track diversity by 50% from 2011.

I wouldnt go there again. Between the freaky transistion getting back on the front straight and the lack of "camping" and showers sucks.

look at http://www.mcraracing.com/  they are planning on gateway opening back up.  he's right though. its not the best venue out there, or the best track but it is racing. i race where i can, no matter what. if i gotta eat out of a tuna can, sleep in my truck, or use baby wipes for a shower then so be it.

A lot of people complain about GIR, but we can use all the tracks we can get around here.  I'm no fan of the transition onto the final straight/banking, but I really enjoy the infield and feel MCRA is an org worthy of my support.  If it opens I'll go.

Yeah the infield was fun though. The carousel's decreasing radius gave me fits.

Rob,
Blackhawk is convenient for you and a lot of other racers.  That's not true for everyone.  There are a number of racers out there who feel like they're at a real disadvantage racing at Blackhawk 4 out of 5 race dates during the season when it's not their "home" track.
The new owner at Blackhawk has made a number of badly needed inprovements over the last few years. ( Not sure anyone misses the coin operated showers with the special surprise.)  He is making investments in Blackhawk that are making it more appealing as a race site.
Gateway is also getting new ownership.  Give the new owners a chance to fix some of the things that would make it a more appealing race site and everyone should benefit.
The big issue we have right now is getting (and keeping) as many racers involved as possible so that it makes sense for race organizations to run events that at least break even.  Good competition benefits everyone!

Rick I dont care about the distance I have to go to race. Topeka is the only one I have issues with. 14 hrs one way for a one day event, nope. 2 day event, possibly but no way just one.

That transition bothers me (and the lack of showers), not the 6 hr drive. When I started with CCS they had more venues and race dates. 6 at BHF and 4 more at other tracks. 99 they went to Putnam if I recall, 2000 they didnt. What happened to MAM do you know? Hell that one year we had Barber on the MW schedule. Would be nice if we could get back to a 10 race schedule. Hell I miss the first weekend in april at BHF opener. Nothing says fun more than having to PLOW the track so we can get to racing.  :lmao:

I just gotta keep a few one dollar bills with me when I tech next year to bribe ya.

And that's the real problem...

As video games continue to offer some of the same feel of reality without the consequences of real racing...injuries and finances...

Not to mention, how will nationalized health care affect racing at any level?

It's already open. St. Louis Porsche club was out there this past weekend. MCRARACING.com is looking to do 4 weekends at Gateway Motorsports Park(not GIR anymore) next year with races each day.
