SuperMotard Question

I read an old thread from 2004 that said a belly pan was needed on a SuperMotard and I'm wondering if that is still the case?

If you go on ebay and search for "supermoto belly pan" there's a carbon fiber one that comes up made by "Nice Carbon".  I have that one on my supermoto bike and it passed tech.  Attached it to the frame using zip ties and safety wire.
