QuoteAs Nate said, they (government) are limiting the number of teens in a car. I don't think that is a very good idea.

Actually, it is a good idea. When Rhiannon was learning how to drive, we had a Mazda 323 wagon, and a 1980 Rx7 (2 seater). Looking at statistics, more teens were killed or injured when there were groups of kids in a vehicle. They goofed around and got distracted. She drove from 15 1/2 to 16 on her probationary license. This means Roger or myself had to accompany her. 6 solid months of supervised driving almost every day. Then, we gave her the keys to the...Rx7. She could only have one friend in the car, as opposed to up to 5 friends in the wagon. At the time people told me I was nuts to give her a "sports car" to drive. The girl down the street got the keys to a spanky brand new topaz. Totalled it inside of 2 months, with 3 kids in the car with her. No one was seriously hurt. I think that the decision to give Rhiannon a car she couldn't stuff full of people made her a better driver. Now she races motorcycles.  ;D Go figure.

The problem with those statistics is that they did not have the alternative to compare to - fewer teens per car but multiple cars traveling together. From my experience they are both trouble but multiple cars is more trouble. I think it is a bad idea because the alternative is worse - more teens driving, potentially in groups, can anyone say race? This is my opinion based upon my experience - ever have a passenger transfer between cars with both are moving?

CCS AM 815... or was that 158?

We have told Renee that she can drive the truck (single cab) or believe it or not...

.... I suggested that we should get her a little 250 Ninja especially "with the limited parking at the high school."

All the while I am thinking, I know how she rides her dirt bike, small cc bike, she'll be OK.  The truck - a limited number of people can fit in the front of the truck, and the deisel really starts to labor if you get it over 75.

Brian, if you had a teen in the house you would know. Those kids are just bad news. Right Jen???  ;D No, actually Brian, you have a point. But the new law requires a bit more driving under supervised conditions, so I hope that will help. Also, when Rhiannon was in HS, she did alot of the driving because some teens did not have access to a vehicle, I would imagine that has changed as well. Want to really get off on a tangent? Retesting drivers (written and road) every 10 years starting at age 50. I could pass, but how many other people could? Might cut down on some more accidents. Oooooo. Flame away.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

No flames here.  I agree and I will be willing to take a test right along with them.

I lived with a kid growing up in a house (my sister's kid, mother's house). I do not object to the part of the law you describe above. I wonder if law makers really thought about the possible alternate scenarios to limiting the number of teens in a car. Personally I think over the age of 60 you should be tested every 2 years and after 70 every year. Driving is not a right, it is a priveledge. Teens are the highest accident group, followed by older drivers (at least the last time I checked). Older people have much more political clout (AARP). Funny how being re-elected is more important than public safety.

Yeah, ha ha. Hmm, I don't know about the every two years bit, maybe every 5 after 60 and then 2 over 70. But I think we do need to get some laws in place regarding aging drivers. It would also ease the burden on family members worried about their aging relatives driving when they know they ought not to, but are powerless to stop them. Ok folks, I gotta get some work done or there will be naked racers at RA next week.  ;)

Well maybe the driving age should be upped to 18 like most other countries. Make drivers ed a year long course they can start at 17.

Then full retests (written and road) every 5 yrs from 18-43
every 4 yrs from 43-51
every 3 yrs from 52-59
every 2 yrs from 60-70
every year from 71-80
every 6 months 81+

And way off tangent here, make it illegal for someone to get handicap plates on a 4X4 95 Dakota that is lifted 12" with 44" tires.  ::) Some fool in town has one of these trucks with handicap plates. Rocker panel is over 3' off teh ground. If he can CLIMB into that, he inst handicap.
