The august race will be my first time at gateway. My question is - are supermoto type bikes competitve in the lightweight classes at this track? It seems after watching some of the vids of races posted on youtube that other sport bikes are not getting to top gear or if they do its very brief , maybe one or two gear changes in the infield?

Your Motard should be fine if it is setup right.
Gateway is a short track so a lot of power isn't needed except on the front straight.

Absolutely! We have a bunch of guys who run motos on our TD's at GIR. As Noid stated- only the front straight will be "slow" for you.  You should rock out in the infield!

The little chicane they put up before the straight will probably help you out too. Without that the big bikes would be unstoppable at that track. But that track is a blast to ride, but I will say it was intimidating for my first 3 or 4 trackday sessions. Have fun
