I will be at the races on Sunday though hoping to learn as much as I can (paper work, race process, race prepping the bike etc.)   I'll definately keep an eye out for you #22.   Where in Florida are you??

I am located in West Palm Beach an live within 25 minutes of PBIR. Come by and I will get you up to speed on my costs.

My little FZR400 was bought as a basket case that I pieced together. I replaced many parts(lots of spares) and bought a new upper from Sharkskinz. I did my own painting using buzz bomb and automotive clear and put it all together for $700 total. The little FZR400 can run on a set of tires for 4 weekends with CCS Florida and it carried me for most of the 2008 season in Ultralight in which I led for most of the season and ultimately won a Regional Championship. It would be hard to win another championship on that bike with the addition of the SV650 in that class, but it sure is still a lot of fun. My son still rides his FZR400 in the class and at times races in GT Lights against the SV650 and does pretty well.

It's all up to you if you want to go fast(buy a big bike) or you may want to race well. A small bike can teach you that without the many costs that the big bikes have.

On my FZR 400 last year i raced it 700 miles for the year and used 1 set of tires.I was also braking my lap records from the year before almost every weekend, even for daytona.  in october i did 2 sec faster then i did last october the year before.Well my ducati is a different story, i get about 150 miles out of a rear and 200-250 miles out of a front.

All in all, I spend about $1000 a race weekend. Thats all inclusive. Practice Day, Entry fees, food, gas (for bike and truck to get to the track), Tires......but it doesn't include the operatining expenses of my race bike which run about $3.00 a mile.....so depending on how many laps i get in it adjusts accordingly

I kept track a few years ago. I didn't write absolutely everything down but I did most of it.

3, 600cc bikes= $19,800 even

Over the winter I bought 8 sets of Mich Power Race tires for $250 a set= $2000

Jeff's trailer= $4000 if I remember right

Regular pump gas for the bike= about 6 gallons per weekend figured to an average of $21.60 per weekend times six trips= $129.60

Mileage to HPT= 918 miles round trip = $247.15
Local strip club= $18.78 (ugly chick. Just got beer and hot wings)
Brought food and grilled out= about $15.00

Generator= $386.00

Tire warmers= $195.00

Mileage to BHF= 694 miles round trip = $186.84 times three trips= about $560.52
Brought food and grilled out= about $15.00 per trip times three= $45.00ish
Family came one weekend. Two nights hotel= $220.00
One set of rain tires= $400.00
Medical bills from broken shoulder and ankle= $325.00 after insurance
Crutches= $21.50
Used swing arm= $40.00
Used plastics= $120.00
New clip on= $30.00
Used sub frame= $65.00
Used fuel tank= $45.00
Used radiator= $30.00
New helmet= $290.00
Leather repairs= $85.00

Mileage to Road America = 494 miles round trip = $240.69
Red Flag Fund Auction= $220.00
Brought food and grilled out= about $15.00
One set of tires=$325.00

Mileage to St. Louis= 290 miles round trip = $80.15
Brought food and grilled out= about $15.00

Figure in race entry fees of $175 to $350 a weekend

Those aren't 100% dead on the money but about 99.9% accurate.

God I spent a ton of money that year, but what a blast.

Keep it cheap and buy a lot of tires at one time at a discount if possible, set your trailer up to sleep in to save on hotel costs, and bring a cooler and a small grill so you can eat at the track.
