Daytona Newby With questions

Doing the ROC this year I have never raced Daytona Before I am on a First gen SV a Fast SV. Any idea Where I should be for a baseline Gearing?

Any ideas?

One piece of advice: whatever baseline gearing you use, bring the extra sprockets (and chain if necessary) to adjust up or down based on what you learn from practice.  A baseline # is a good starting point, but will need to be adjusted for your own HP/# ratio, which is affected by your bike's state of tune and how much you weigh with your gear.  Plus if you're slower/faster than you thought, then that's going to affect how much less/more drive you have, and thus gearing.

Going out and being over geared in your first session wont hurt nearly as bad as going out and self venting the crank case by overrevving the thing. If I were taking the SV I built down there to run with Hernan Martinez to try to win some Am national championships. (160lb rider) I would be starting at 17/43, maybe 42 for the draft. The motor that is in it right now is a low rever, i.e shifting at 9,650. If your on a fast second gen bike running it to 11000, even if its only making 85-90 hp, better have at least 17 with you.
