So I'm finally pulling together enough kit to do a trackday on my '01 YZ426f.  I'm probably not going to get around to lowering it, but I do have a good line on 17s and front brake rotors, which I intend to have for the trackday. So, my next big quandry is do I need a steering damper? I've talked to a guy who raced AMA supermoto at St Louis and even down that front stretch he didn't get a big slapper.  So I'm asking for opinions here from those road racing motards?  Need?  Don't need?  My first trackday on the motard would be at Gateway International.  I'd appreciate any input on this.  And maybe suspension suggestions using stock parts, for now.

Motorcycling is not, of itself, inherently dangerous. It is, however, extremely unforgiving of inattention, ignorance, incompetence, or stupidity

Steven.....I have no help to give you but I wanted to say I look forward to seeing you at at GIR.  Its been a long time since we've ridden together.  You going to make it out for the 13th?

I raced a  Honda CRF at HPT a couple years back, and did not have a damper on mine, and didn't have any problems. The bars are wide enough that you have alot of control and with a bike that light it takes very little steering effort on the longer sweeping corners. You will have a blast!

You shouldn't need a damper, good thing is the front end is so light that it's easy to control.

Good luck!  I'm hoping that I'll have enough money left over to run a few of the races up at E-town on my DRZ.
