Charity Ride (7/25/08) for Lance Armstrong Foundation and cancer research

Hello everyone;

All of us have had our lives touched by the loss of a friend or loved one to cancer. I just lost a close relative this week to cancer which is why I am moving forward on this.

I have registered a team (charity event fundraiser not a racing team) as Team Cornerspeed® for the official 24 hour cycling fund raiser of the Lance Armstrong Foundation. You do not have to ride a bicycle to participate! We have an online page where we can direct friends, family and businesses to donate under your name if you sign up or under my name if you just want to donate. Donations and registrations are done all online just like shopping on ebay or amazon. If you join the team, you have to raise a minimum of $150 which isn't much but you need to know that you are responsible for the $150 once you sign up so be prepared to direct friends to the site or be prepared to make up the difference yourself if your minimum fundraising isn't met.

It will be a good time and an opportunity to use our blessing of good health to help others.

And so you don't get confused, this is BICYCLING charity ride. It is not a race. Ride one lap or ride one hundred laps, it's up to you! Camping facilities and catered meals are provided by the organizers.

I will say thank you now to those of you that enjoy good health and want to make a difference in other people's lives.

24 Hours of Booty is the one and only 24-hour road cycling charity event in the country. The official 24-hour road ride of the Lance Armstrong Foundation, this unique and exciting event is fully supported on a traffic-free loop. The event originated in 2002 when one man set out to cycle for 24 hours to raise money for the LAF. He set his sights on a three-mile loop of roadway, nicknamed the "Booty Loop" by local runners, cyclists and sports enthusiasts, in Charlotte, N.C.'s tree-lined Myers Park neighborhood. He completed his mission and started a movement.

The name was inescapable - 24 Hours of Booty was born.

Every year Charlotte's Booty Loop closes to traffic to host cyclists from around the country to ride in honor and support of the cancer community. The momentum behind the event has been so strong that we're proud to now offer 24 Hours of Booty in Charlotte, North Carolina and Columbia, Maryland. As always, 24 Hours of Booty is open to individuals of every cycling ability. Year after year, we're proud of how this extraordinary event brings together individuals of all ages and cycling abilities to raise awareness and funding for noteworthy cancer charities.

Fundraising efforts benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation and local cancer charities. The ride itself is a meaningful experience for riders and supporters of the event. Participants include cancer survivors celebrating life and strength; and family and friends who ride in honor of a loved one affected by cancer, or in memory of a loved one who lost the battle with the disease. The event unites people who are passionate about cancer. It's about survivorship, knowledge, progress and support. The 24 Hours of Booty experience represents hope, challenge, remembrance and celebration.

The 24 Hours of Booty is also an exceptional event for cyclists of all levels. Participants can ride as far as their inspiration takes them, in teams or solo. Riders can cover 3 miles to 300 miles or more. Because the course is situated on a 2 to 3-mile loop, cyclists are never far from the finish line. The event features round-the-clock road closure with police support, fully catered meals and beverages, free camping, free bike support, great fund-raising awards, and many free products and samples. The fun and energizing atmosphere is also perfect for spectators, friends, families, survivors and supporters.
