Has anyone had any luck with the Westhold RM Viewer application working at any events this year?  I didn't try it at Homestead a couple of weeks ago, but last year when I tried it I couldn't get it to work, so I finally gave up trying after VIR in June or July because every time I asked the staff they said that there was a problem with the system.

I'm just wondering if I should bother bringing my laptop with me to Daytona.

Thanks for any help with this.

The RM viewer program works and we had it fully functional at VIR in June on Sunday. This was running on Kevin's laptop we then purchased new lap tops for the regions and the required wireless network access points so it could be broadcast for all events. New laptops came with Vista which as part of their security package prevents the broadcast program from working. A fix is being worked on but seems the code for VIsta is causing programmers issues in making it work. Yes it works with XP but software is being written for Vista for other scoring software so it all needs to integrate.

So short version we are trying but no telling if this most recent update will work until we try it and if we have it prior to Daytona.

Format the MFer's and install XP back on them... That would be the quick easy fix for them wouldnt it?

Bring them to CMP and I'll do it for you!

Hell, I have an extra laptop I can bring with me to CMP and Summit Point to use if need be too.

XP is not the answer, note the scoring program (where laptiems comes from) is in Vista, The last fully working version of RM viewer does not work in Vista.

Vista blows in general... Nothing but problems from just about everyone I have talked to about it. Also a few things MS added I dont agree with too.

So the viewer doesnt work in vista, but it is wrote for vista? Someone needs a  :kicknuts: for that one!!!

How was it running at VIR? Why cant you just go back to that configuration/version?  :banghead:

Will it be ready for CMP? or HPT?

I think we need some more/new smilies...

I just had a lengthy (email) conversation with the crew at Westhold.  The issues (from an RM Viewer client perspective, NOT from a CCS mgmt/scoring perspective) have to do with range, the number of client connections it can handle, and other issues.  The operating system issue probably has to do with the server and the components used by the officials.

They (Westhold) tried a few quick-fixes last year to allow more clients to connect simultaneously, but according to them they didn't work.  So they're working on fixing now, in addition to a few other things.

One discussion we had was the value of porting the application to Windows Mobile (not hard, but a little bit of work).  I for one would much rather have a PDA than have to leave an expensive laptop around that could easily walk away.  It's also easier to carry around while watching the race, etc.

They asked me if I thought that a lot of people would be interested in a PDA version of RM Viewer.

How many people here would be interested?
