Can someone tell me if the 1098 is legal for AMA superbike? If it is, where are they? If they are not, what are the morons that run AMA Pro Racing thinking! [ besides sucking up to the nip factories] Regards, Dan

You might want to read the 2008 AMA rulebook

Do or do not, there is no "try".

You gentleman are correct. I did read the rule book. Maybe I should do common sense things like that before asking questions. Dan

Isnt any different than WSBK caving in to Ducati everytime Ducati wants more CC's than anyone else.

Nobody caved in to anyone with Duc in the AMA rule book. Duc just doesn't want to play with the rules the way they are written so, they took their toys and went home. Some people just don't play nice with others.

Caving in?

Twins are allowed more displacement than fours in every class, every series. Why should superbike be different?
Ducati has been given special consideration with their engines ever since the 1000cc switch. More liberal rules for twins kept Ducati competitive, but it cost a ton more money to build a competitve twin than a four.

Ducati built the 1098 to sell it, not to win races. They wanted to offer a street bike that would compare in performance to the jap fours. They built the bike they wanted to sell, and asked the AMA and WSB if they could race it.

I'd love to see more superbikes on the grid. If the new rules mean more bikes, I don't care if they're Ducatis or whatever.

Page 26 it mentions some rules concerning 1000cc-1200cc 4-stroke 2 cylinder machines. Not sure if they are talking about the new ducks though. Sure seems like it.  :thumb:

Ducs are allowed to go to 1200cc motors.  They are also limited to the 09 rules package while the fours are allowed the current much less restricted rules.
