From a press release issued by Jason Farrell/Speed Tech Motorsports:

Perennial CCS front-runner and occasional AMA racer Jason Farrell has decided to hang up his helmet and focus on the technical aspect of racing. "I feel I can greatly assist a racing program with what I have experienced in my 27 years as a racer and from running Speed Tech Motorsports with its competitive offshoot, Speed Tech Racing. I have the ability to bring several necessary aspects with me, such as being a rider coach, technical director, engine builder and development with the chassis and suspension." Farrell's engines powered CCS racer Brian Hall to an overall points championship and 6 regional championships this summer in the CCS Midwest series.

Continued Farrell, "I have seen the handwriting on the wall. I cannot run a front running AMA effort by myself. Even though I have had sporadic help from friends and family, I have had to build my own motors, primarily wrench on my own bikes, bus my own tires back and forth and prepare to compete. It's all too much and the budget to do a full season is no longer feasible with trying to maintain a decent living off of purse money." Farrell recently attended an in-depth seminar on AIM data acquisition and noted, "I can definitely see how this technology is a must-have, but it also has so many aspects that most of the people using the technology don't extract all the information possible to utilize its full potential. I'd like to help teams integrate and develop this area. I have written several programs already to help analyze the data acquired."

"Another area that I am looking at is rider development. I am looking to form a school for expert riders that will utilize data acquisition to get them to reach deeper into themselves to extract that last percent that they need to get to, or remain, at the front of the pack."

Speed Tech Racing is currently sponsoring Brian Hall for the 2008 season to race Superbike, Sportbike & Superstock in the full ASRA & partial CCS Midwest region races. There is an open seat on the team available. Speed Tech Racing currently builds races bikes at their shop for regional to AMA level racers.

Sounds like a payoff to me...

Maybe Braun thought it was cheaper to pay Farrell to sit out.
