what is this, what does it do.

what's the significants?  I've read on it,but does it really matter?

Reshaping and polishing the exhaust ports and reshaping the intakes. You don't want to polish the intakes. They need to have a bit of rough surface for fuel atomization.

An engine is basically an air pump. The faster, more efficiently you get air in and out of it the better it runs.

Don't mess with it yourself. If you don't know what you're doing you'll ruin a perfectly good head. But someone good at it can do wonders.  The factory heads of today are pretty damn good though. All they need is a little clean up of surfaces to make them better.  

P.S. not legal in SS.  ::) But don't tell the factories that.
