All,

BIG wreck yesterday in T1 right in front of me at Summit Point.

It was an incredible race; really fun to watch.

I don't race, I just film, so bear with me if I don't get the facts all correct.

Here's how I remember it:

- It was Race 1 (Formula 40 ... I think); the over 40 guys.  There were Amateur and Expert out on the track together.

- The "pack" just never seemed to break up ... those guys were SERIOUS about winning and kept it close racing ... that's when "it" happened ...

- Coming into turn 1, the guy LEADING the Expert group (I don't know his name or number) and the guy LEADING the Amateur group (#587, Ross Wellwood, who was pitted near where I was camping) collided ...

- Everybody is OK ...

The Video ...

Looks like the guy in the rear came into the corner on the outside. But the guy in front went a little wide. After looking at it the pavement there is pretty jacked up.

'He's OK, he just got knocked out!'    :err:

Yeah, I know.

At the time, tho ... I was thinking way, way worse things.  I felt a real "sick" feeling go away when I saw him stand up.

I was there for this one as it happened.  Pretty good shot to the head on the expert.  You can see Mr. Allen Cox (Marrc cornerworker) running in the background immediately giving the hand signal for Ambulance.  Pop Pop the amateur plate faired a little bit better.  He had his family jewels knocked pretty hard  :kicknuts: when the bike bucked up hence the reason he was down for quite awhile.  We were very ecstatic to see both get up.  :thumb:

There is a concrete patch in that turn which most racers say grips very well.  They've also said the transition back to pavement is sometimes sketchy as well.  There are a couple places on the track like this.  This is one of our more active turns for incidents but it is also after the long straight.  A lot of out braking manuevers are attempted here.  Every track has that "trouble" spot but I assure you this isn't the "one" for Summit Point.

As a matter of fact check out some of Magic Rats other videos from his site.  You'll see what I mean.

It's good to see that both riders walked away from that incident.

On a side note, (can't tell if it's Amy or Lori) but where in the world are your gloves, woman!?!?! :err:

That member of the Kobayashi crew was Amy....Lori wasn't there this weekend, though as many times as I was called Lori - she may as well have been  :ahhh: :ahhh:!  Don't let Russell see those pics!!!!

AND!  I lost my mechanix gloves this weekend :(.  I dropped them in the cafe area or around hot pit.  Some one got a pair of XS Mechanix gloves with a whole lot of corner working karma attached to them!   :wah: :wah:

That was me in the video that shot by right after the crash. I was behind Neil when this happened. We all came down the front straight, Pop Pop passed me right after the tower and was going for the late brake move on Neil at T1. He got by but was carrying too much speed to to maintain that particular line. When his rear drifted it caught Neil front and down they both went. From my vantage point I would call it bad timing versus rider error, becuase both riders would have made the turn if the other was not there. I don't think Neil will make it to VIR (he will be missed at that round), but hopefully he will heal up soon and mount back up. Did I mention that I was setting him up for the pass myself? Oh well, maybe next season.

Russell will have a cow if he sees those pics!

Or better yet after this weekend he'll have a monkey instead.

I just don't want to imagine where it would come from!   :lmao:
