Just got out of a little conversation with my boss. Apparently someone complained to HR that I come in early, and leave late  ::)
The person who ratted on me, was in trouble for the exact same thing, so I guess they thought it would be great to try and drag someone else down with them.  I have no enemies here (so I thought)

This sucks, I have been with this company for 3 years and really work hard. I work from home afterhours a lot and always check work email.  I also travel sometimes for them, use my own personal phone and never ask for a dime. I don't even ask for comp time for all the hours I spend waiting in the airport.  I have gotten all great reviews here too, not one bad one.  I always get thank yous from my boss for going the extra mile.

The worst part is I put in a lot of hours while at home. But now my boss is worried about making the whole group look "bad" because of this issue HR brought up. So I had to have this talk with him.  This is the first time I've needed to have a "talk" here too.   So I told him I will come in at 8 and leave at 5 and work standard hours. What I didn't tell him is that I will now NOT be putting in extra (free) hours at home. Work will stay at work.  If they could step back and see the big picture, they would see what they're doing is counter-productive.

It just sucks that someone else can disrupt your life, when you really have been doing nothing wrong.   More reasons to go racing I guess.  I have a house, car payment and live by myself. So when work issues like this comes up, it really gets stressful.

Hourly or Salary?  Same for the "rat"?  Why does your company dislike deticated employees?

I tell my team (10) of them.  I don't care if you come in at 6 am or 8 am, but I need you to work on average of 45 hrs per week and more if you work load needs it.  Don't come in early or stay late if you don't need to.  I tell them that I'll pay overtime if it's needed but I won't give time away.

Was this person doing abusive things while coming in early/late?

I'm salary, so is the person that got the talking to last week.
They were supposedly "working from home" a lot. Working from home is allowed here for certain positions. However, when someone tried to reach this person, they were not available. This person isn't even in my group by the way. They were basically saying they were working, and just goofing off more than likely.

So because of their stupidity, a magnifying glass is being applied to other groups here.  And this person took it upon themselves to tell HR I leave early. Hell, even my boss said today (during the talk) that I always get my work done.

Also may I state that our HR person loves to flex their muscles for no reason. I guess I am at the receiving end of this.  Just sucks I will be watched from now on.  Not a good feeling. Feel like I am back working for the government

HR is not your friend in any company, especially large ones. Tell them as little a legally possible.

As far as work goes, sounds like you are a dedicated, conscientious worker, and those are in short supply lately. Go find a position with another firm that will appreciate those qualities.

Do or do not, there is no "try".

Dude don't loose sleep over it. I am like you, a workaholic. My platoon Sergeant calls me his pitbull because I come in on my days off and try and get stuff done. In the military micro managing is part of the job and it seems it is part of yours. The next time your boss ask why something wasn't done just tell him that there is not enough work hours in the day and you will take care of it tomarrow.

I would have your boss confront HR for you.  If you boss truely appreciates you, they would have your back.

I know with my "kids", I let them know when the screwed up but I also make sure they know I got their back when I need to.

Davidv, you hit it right on the head bro when you said its more reasons to go racing.  Cause micro-managing paper-pushers don't got the stomach to grid.  So we can find a refuge!  It seems like in every office there is always someone who stirs the pot, spreads the gossip, tries to kiss up or is just plain jealous.  I know in mine its that way, and we got guns!  I think you will find that your reputation is well respected by those whose opinions matter, you sound like a dedicated employee.  The troublemakers and weak leaders will soon find something else to spas about, while you are burning off stress in turn 10.

thanks guys, thanks for the support. I guess no matter where you go, you have to put up with the same BS. There will always be an asshole, there will always be people who try and make you fail etc. Kind of sucks that people are so miserable that they try and ruin other people's lives, but what are you going to do

Here's to dropping green flags

Pretty much puts things in perspective for me.  You're going to have to deal with unfortunate things wherever you work.  I probably don't have it as  bad as I thought.
Never interrupt your opponent while he's making a mistake.

I cant figure out why you're upset that you can't work for free! If it will make you happy I have a garage that needs a good cleaning. Heck I'll even let you do it for free! Then again it may be better for you to just go racing. I have never been an advocate of bringing work to the house especially if I'm not on the clock. The only people that get something for free is a racer that needs some help puttin together a wadded bike, other than that you gotta pay for work. Maybe my priorities are screwed up but it sounds like they did you a favor.

I just think it's nice to know that there are people out there WILLING to work instead of sitting on their asses. Good luck with your situation though. Hope it works out in your favor.
