I just got off the phone with Bob Weinert's wife concerning Bob's freind (who was the rider who was helicoptered out). His name is John Morrow and he's doing fine now, he ended up missing a few days of work with a bad concussion and only 1 broken finger, but he's back to work now and doing well!  :thumb:

Do or do not, there is no "try".

Mike,

Was John the one whose bike you picked up from Tech to load on his trailer?

Was his trailer hooked up to a open Jeep?

The reason I ask is that the Med Crew dropped off the jacket from a set of leathers later and I put the jacket in the Jeep.

It's been bothering me ever since that I put the wrong jacket in the Jeep!  :ahhh:

Thanks!

That was John's bike I picked up from tech that day and that was his Jeep with the open trailer as well!  :thumb:

Jeez, John!  be more careful!  (Picture redheaded waif singing, "Your head'll get whacked, John Morrow....")

Hope you're feeling better.  Concussions suck.  But I suppose if I had to be in that position, it would be really comforting to know that Bob Weinert had my back.  He's an A+ class act.
The frame was snapped, the #3 rod was dangling from a hole in the cases, and what was left had been consumed by fire.  I said, "Hey, we've got all night!"

Howdie everyone, I was the guy that got the helicopter ride from road america on sat during the lwgp race. Scott first off let me ask how your doing. I just went back to work today and was doing some surfing and found the forum on ccs's site, i had no idea it was there....save the comments :ahhh:.  Thanks to everyone for your help and concern, i can't thank everyone enough for all your thoughts and prayers.  It was a scary experience, i lost all memory of sat and sun till i woke up in the hospital in wis. wouldn't recommend it.  I suffered a severe concussion and four broken bones in my left hand which are mending according to my ortho. $$$  i just went back to work of friday 080207 and will be 100% soon.   Scott if you get this let me know how your doing, sounds like you got the worst end of this one. :(  Again thanks to everyone.

p.s. when i was leaving the hospital the E.R. Dr. stopped me and told me that whatever i spent on my gear was money well spent.  He said that if i would have had a lower quality helmet on I wouldn't be here....the helmet split from the base to the top in several locations on the inside of the helmet but did it's job, stinks that it was my Scott Russell Shoei edition...but it sure beats.... Thanks again

Very glad to hear you are okay and back to work John... Still thanking my lucky stars it wasn't worse for either of us!!!

Like you, my safety gear seems to have done its job pretty well. Haven't looked the leathers over yet. Alexa may be able to repair those. Helmet is toast, but the HJC did very well for me seeing as how I face planted into the asphalt and continued to hit my head a few times skidding/tumbling along (yep, I think I was awake and conscious for the whole nasty deal). A-stars boots worked very well it seems (according to doctor it should have been worse) and believe it or not, are probably still good to go again. Gloves are done too, but thank god I got the kind with carbon/kevlar hard knuckle protectors. Also, can't prove it, but believe that my wearing a mouth guard helped.

Still trying to get mended.....  surgery went very well according to ortho surgeon. Ended up with Ti plate in the leg, bone graft, and 16 screws holding it all together. Again, probably lucky that I didn't have to have external fixation like some do. Will be a while yet before I will be able to start physical therapy or use the leg. Should know more after my next ortho appointment on the 20th and get some new x-rays. Swelling continues to be a slight problem with the leg if its not elevated above my heart, but hopefully that will quit being an issue soon. Arm and collar bone are still sore, but I think they are getting better. Turns out I broke some ribs too (also on the left side), but all in all, they haven't bothered me a lot (I guess its relative). Never thought I would say it, but I can't wait to get on crutches and be semi-mobile again. Hell, at this point, I'm even anxious to begin therapy.

Not back to work yet. Still in a wheel chair when not in bed, cast on arm, and sling for the collar bone. Being laid up and immobile gets old real fast. Got the Maximum Bone Aid stuff that Superdave recommends, and really hope it works wonders for me and speeds the recovery like it has for others.

Needless to say, the season is definitely over for me. With some luck though, I'll be able to make it to the last blackhawk race this year as a spectator and will be able to race again next year. Time will tell I suppose.

Again, thanks John for checking to see how things are coming along, am very relieved to hear that you're going to be 100% soon. Best of luck with your remaining recovery and with everything else in your future.

Scott & John -
Glad to hear you guys are mending up - thoughts and prayers still with you!

Regarding helmets, this Motorcyclist Magazine article (couple years old) offers some really interesting observationson the approval standards and ratings, and compares various helmets.  Makes for a good read (since you've got a lot of time on your hands Scott!)
