okay, I'll cut right to the punch line.  I am an idiot.

Now for the story..

Last night we were going out to pick some stuff up and I needed a couple of tie-downs from my back garage which is about 150' across the back yard.  It's covered in snow, so why walk when you can boggle across with the new Wrangler?

Well, about 50' in and I'm buried up to the frame in hard crusty snow.  It's not going anywhere.  Crap..

(insert wife's laughter here)

I jump out, go get the tie-downs and we hop in the Libby CRD to run our errand.

We come back and spend about 30 minutes jerking the wrangler out of the snow with the Libby (tow strap, hitch-to-hitch).  The libby had plenty of power, but no traction in the snow, so we had to jerk it probably 15 times.  I was also pretty cautious to make sure we didn't yank too hard.

My path into the snow wasn't straight, so I ended up pulling at a bit of an angle.  What's the big deal?  It's not a steep angle and we're in SNOW...

Fast forward 30 mins, we get it all out and everything is in the garage all happy like.

Well, this morning I hop in the Wrangler and hit the road for work.  I get to about 43mph and it feels like this thing is gonna fly apart.  The front end is shimmying so bad it's almost out of control.  Back off to 40 and it's managable..  What the hell?  Did I bend a rim?  Did I tweak the alignment?  Gasp, an axle?? 

I pull over and everything looks fine.

My dealer is on the way to work and I can get there using 40mph roads, so I hop back in and call them to tell them I'm on the way.  I make it there with little problem, only the concern of how much this is going to cost me.

I pull into the dealer garage area and before I'm even out of the Jeep, the service guys are laughing at me...

I hop out as one yells to another one, "Yep, Told ya!".

The inside of both front wheels were packed with ICE... 

The guy told me to go grab a cup of coffee and let it warm up a bit...  I did so and headed out about 20 mins later.  I still have some ice in the wheels, but I can do 50 now and will melt it off tonight in the garage at home...

LOL... I'm an idiot.

Of course, I didn't call the dealership, I took it to a car wash.

could have been worse. glad it's only ice.

Let me venture a guess- cause that has happened partially to me- you werent the first nor the last but its definately a good reminder- car wash yea!

car wash... well, it's 12 degrees out and when it's above that, the roads are filthy with wet salt.  I don't think a car-wash would have really been on anyone's mind after plucking a jeep from snow.

Don't feel bad....

On Saturday we needed to use the truck (mind you it hasn't moved since deer hunting).  The truck was snowed in and the tractor wouldn't start (dead battery).  So, Paul said, "I can get it out."

The truck did fine plowing with the front end (yep, we have 3 - 4 foot drifts through most of the yard, higher in some points).  He had a perfect three lines consisting of the tire tracks and the rear pumpkin.  Fast forward to where the barn driveway meets the road after the plow went through.... 

Needless to say we needed to get the tractor running, the tow straps out, and the truck has a thorough undercarriage cleaning.

   Did the same thing with my truck a week and a half ago... knew exactly what it was as soon as I hit about 40.

done with nice red clay before when i got my truck stuck in the mud.  took the wheels off and power washed all the clay off.

Sorry Jeff, you are just having a bad day.  From where I am standing, you are one ER visit, two accidents, and one totaled car short of being classified as an idiot  LOL!!
