1st race day planned for Homestead 2/11 - you guys have been very generous with info to help reduce the butterflies.  The races don't have me worried, it's all the procedural stuff that I'm scared could screw up my day.  Some more stupid newb questions . . .

- When should I pre-register for the race - is now too early to fax in?
- If I pre-register - do I still have to check in somewhere on Sat/Sun or do they do that at the gate?
- Are there tech inspections on Saturday?
- When is tech open - only in the morning or all day?
- When is the best time to have your bike at tech - is early better (less crowded)?
- If you have to take your lower fairing off for tech - do you have to bring that to tech with you?

Thanks again for the help - you guys are great.

some basic answers to how things run in the Great Plains, your region may vary...

- When should I pre-register for the race - is now too early to fax in?  Anytime, if you dont want to be upfront tell them to grid you in the back.
- If I pre-register - do I still have to check in somewhere on Sat/Sun or do they do that at the gate? Yes, the line goes MUCH faster though!!!
- Are there tech inspections on Saturday?  Yep
- When is tech open - only in the morning or all day?  I beileve its open in some capacity most of the day.  As an AM you get to tech before most as your practice sessions are first
- When is the best time to have your bike at tech - is early better (less crowded)?  Early if you want to practice, tech typically moves right along
- If you have to take your lower fairing off for tech - do you have to bring that to tech with you? Yep, they need to make sure you have a fluid retaining bellypan

Thanks again for the help - you guys are great.  No no no... YOUR great!!

Have fun!!

If you pre-register you will also save $$ per race.  Also the earlier you register the further to the front of the grid you will be, as CCS grids by enrty date/time.

Tech is always bussy early in the morning, I usually miss the first practice session cuz I am usually slow getting around sat. morning. The line does move pretty quick tho.

Have fun!

Thanks guys!  The info you all dish out is always a big help.  I'll probably go ahead and register now and just line up in the back of the grid my first race and wear my green shirt.  That way - if all goes well and I get ballsy - I can still grid toward the front in later races if I want.

. . .hold the line - don't freek out - hold the line - don't freak out  . . . . :err:

from there, back line)  aim towards the edge (in parrallel)of the asphalt and think "HAMMER TIME" - check  grids for possible slow starters(GP Bikes) avoid them at all costs! SV 700 john Good luck ! john in NJ

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "WOOOHOOO! What a freaken ride"

Adopt the KISS philosophy, don't worry about suspension, tire warmers, yada, yada.  Set your sag, get a decent damping rate and ride.  Concentrate on only your riding and you'll have fun while learning a great deal.  Welcome to an obsession, and to the fastest regional riders around.  Good luck!

Maverick,

I suggest pre-entry and request a garage # at the same time. The post-entry registration line can get brutal.

At the gate they will usually let you know your assigned garage #. Head towards that garage and park close by. Walk to the middle of the garages where the tower is and look for two tables in front of Registration. That will be the pre-registered paperwork. Get you paperwork and sign. Set-up your garage and head towards garage #16 I think for tech. Experts get priority due to the fact that they are first up in practice.

Tech always seems to be open and bring your bellypan. Best first thing in the morning. Tech Sat and you are good for the weekend.

Maverick, I attended Hometsead this past year, and it was my first race weekend. The people were great, and Henry ran a real nice program. I will be flying down to attend again this year. The way Roadracer2 described the locations and process seem to be how I remember. I also looked on the schedule from last year and registration and tech were open from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm on saturday. The most anyone can say is to look forward to having alot of fun and the rest will fall into place.
