Newb - Planning on 1st race at Homestead in Feb.  Did the Penguin school there last weekend - held my own in the Intermediate group.  GSXR 600 Supersport legal bike.  Goals = #1 Don't crash,  #2 Don't come in last, #3 Don't get lapped - just wanna have some fun first time on the grid.  What classes should I run??  I'm thinking about AM F40, AM MW GP, & AM HW Supersport.  Trying to avoid the typical crowds in the MW classes (Supersport, GTO, GTU, Supersport).  Any advice would be very helpful.  Thanks!!

I think the three you talked about are good, in that order even, if you're looking for something to be a little more gentlemanly.  Have fun, hold your line. :thumb:

In My first Race I pretended I was being chased. If you get behind someone And you are way back in the field, Dont follow their line Because its probibly not a good one. If you get lapped follow the line of the fast guy that lapped you His lines are most likely better.

Also For Homestead, When You Go into turn 1 with the throttle full on, Look down the track to turn two. Thats where you are going.   Also  to some extent turn 9 Look into 10.

And those goals you set Are the same I started racing with And they have not failed me. Also what super dave said, Hold your Line Its safer for you and the people Trying to pass you.

Have Fun,

I will see you at homestead in December

Great Advice.  Thanks.  Any more Newb advice for Homestead - like . . .

How do I start at the back of the grid - Do I still preregister?
How do I attach the transponder to my bike?
Can you set up your garage on Friday pm?
Is the Sat practice run like a track day?

You poor bast@#ds - answering these stupid newb questions over and over . . . sorry.

Answers;

You can pre-register and then line up at the back of the grid.

Zipties through the body and around the transponder works well. Homestead in December saw only the Ex with them.

Most that attend the Penguin school have their garage space set the day of Friday and leave it for the remainder of the weekend.

Practice on Saturday is similar to a track day with the sessions in your respective classes, Expert, Combined (Ex & Am on LW bikes), and Am.

Hey man dont worry about the 2nd two rules and worry only about the first rule " no crashing".  The other two WILL just happen if you hold your line,  and good luck.  BTW gtu is a Half hour practice go for it!
