ROFLMAO...  This is funny to read..

I can understand how competitive we all are, but there's a HUGE difference in super-moto vice roadracing.  I learned my lesson the hard way on the ice...  You think a 100+mph crash on a roadracing bike is bad?  Come off the high-side of a 450 whose seat height is like 42" off the ground and rear end travel is 14" or so...  Those damned things will catapult you to the moon!!!

Yea, I have a set of ice tires for the KX250 this year. I'm going to kill myself on that thing.

I just read that this morning......
Funny all the ex-motocross / supercross guys are on the top and all the road racers are, well... further down.

it's night and day difference.  Despite them both running slicks and running courses they may know, the technique and physics are VERY different.

IMHO, the AMA was messed up for forcing them into classes where they didn't belong.  Rather dangerous from my point of view.

It goes both ways. Ben Carlson is a freak on a SM bike, but didn't exactly set the world on fire as a roadracer....

I've ridden some supermoto, and I have to admit, in the dirt sections I'm totally lost, even though I ride motorcross quite a bit. It's just a different world on slicks.

Benny did pretty well on a road racer.  It was the cost that did them in.

He did a 1:10.9 at Blackhawk in ULGP qualifying in 2004.  That's pretty darn good.

As for the road racers in Supermoto...

How many supermoto events did they do during the year while the other guys did how many?  And there have been a few times when BB has beat them all.  It's hard.

VERY different racing supermoto and roadracing 600cc bikes. You can't run in real hard on the front brakes and trail in like a road bike. And backing it in with the slipper and rear brake, to keep weight off the front, is WAY harder than it looks.

Considering they showed up to race AM and were put into pro......having only races those bikes once before i think they did pretty good.  :ahhh:

I guess you all have forgot about Ben Bostrom.
Most roadracers like to drag a knee, that's not the fast way around a supermoto track.

I never said he didn't do well, I said he didn't set the world on fire.
If he was that fast, cost would not have been an issue, just ask Danny Eslick.
I kept an eye on him in 04, because I think he's a cool kid and I enjoy seeing him do well. He never got inside the top 20 in an AMA race, and I don't think he was ever top three in a regional race.
Not bad results, but not nearly on par with his supermoto abilities.

And over on the supermoto forums they're complaining that AMA is making their tracks to road racer bias. :ahhh: :banghead:

Motorcycling is not, of itself, inherently dangerous. It is, however, extremely unforgiving of inattention, ignorance, incompetence, or stupidity

i've ran through the grass and dirt on slicks before. didn't work out so well. i'll be damned if i'd make a full race out of that sort of thing.
my hats off to them whether they're at the top of the list of the bottom.
