So who plans to go see it, and who's read the book? Thoughts on the controversy?

Didn't read the book, but we plan to go see it this weekend. I hope it's as good as the hype.

I found the book to be highly entertaining (as a novel), and the underlying implications very thought-provoking.  For a long time, I've believed that organized religion is man's creation and has very little to do with spirituality and one's basic belief in God... and that Christianity's original teachings have been manipulated and subverted over the centuries (the theories proffered by the author make a lot of sense at face value).

It left me wishing  that I had the spare time to study the subject in depth.

  Haven't read the book. Definitely going to see the movie. All the controversy, well, the book defunks religion. Correct? I imagine all the controversy is the possible loss of monies in their coffers. (If the Catholic church spent 1/5th of the time it spends "fighting evil" on rooting out it's own child molestors I might find them more credible as leaders, of some sort.)

 Saw it, and I'd say it is not what I thought at all. Much better...

Now, Talladega Nights!? The ballad of Ricky Bobby?? Hell yeah...

Saw it last night.  It was really good, but having read the book, 2 1/2 hours was quite long when you know exactly what is going to happen.  A few parts catch you by surprise.
