Sometimes during all the hustle of racing it is easy to forget all the people who work so hard to make sure that we are safe. I hadn't worked corners for a few years and decided to this past weekend since I don't race with that "other" sanctioning org (scheduling conflicts). The safety crew starts thier day before 7 AM stocking the corners & drying the track. They then spend the next 4 or 5 hours on station so that we can race safely. They are there rain (last weekend) or in the blazing heat. After a quick break for lunch they are back out for another 5 hours or so and are cleaning up gear after we have retired to the pits for the night. I don't know about the other tracks but at Summit Point the MARRC crew  :) does this for free. Thier only compensation is a t-shirt and some of Wills great cooking. If it wasn't for the safety crew we would have nobody to flag, keep the track safe, pick us up after we fall, provide medical assistance, or a myriad of other functions that they provide. In short without these wonderful volunteers we would not be able to race.
I don't know when the last time all of you told them personally "Thank You" but I know that it had been far too long for me. It's been almost a year since I took any beer to them (Will told me that he likes Yeungling after I brought Coors, Budwieser & Busch, next time there will be some for him).
Don't forget to let the Safety Crew know how much you appreciate them and all that they do for us.

Thanks for the comments. It was pretty miserable on Saturday. I hate it when the rain runs out of my shoes.
Beer is always appreciated!!!...only at night of course!
