I just bought a Philips keychain digital camera. It's so small it fits in the palm of my hand, it also doubles as a webcam, bought if for $20.00 at KFart, oops, I mean Kmart,

Question- When I take this to the track and want to download my pics, is there anyway to download the pics without having a laptop, what do I need to buy?

Thanks in advance!!! ;D

Jeff

if you don't download the pics to a laptop, what are you downloading them to?

You can download them directly to your back pocket by simply placing the camera in your back pocket!  Does that count?

haha, Jeff, you funny guy.  ;D, no it does not count, maybe I should ask one of the photo guys, I saw one of the them use a device that attached to the camera and he downloaded them onto that, kinda like a mini hard drive, like the mini drives you hook up to your usb port on the computer, Would one of those work on a camera too, is also what I would like to know.

Thumb drive. You need to watch the capacity, some have as little as 128m and some have as much as 4 gigs. Of course the price goes up with storage volume. Look 'em up at //www,newegg.com

Do or do not, there is no "try".

Still not sure how you'd get them from the camera to the thumb drive?  Usually you need some sort of software to do that.

They do make hard drives that are made for this exact purpose.  Problem is, they usually cost more than the camera!

What type of storage device does the camera use?  How many megapixels is the camera?  Think about how many pics you may take and then figure out how much space you need.  You may be able to get by on 2 or 3 two gig SD (or whatever medium it stores them on) cards for the weekend.

Jeff

It depends on the kind of media the camera uses.

Mine uses compact flash and some other kind of tiny 'stamp-like' memory which I can buy as many of as I want and when one is full, pop it out and put in another.

Then when I get home, I wedge it into my laptop and view all the images.

CF or Microdrives are not that expensive.  I believe you can get 1gig or more for under $100.  3 years ago I paid $80 for a 512mb CF.  And at 512mb, I can store +1700 pictures in 1MB format which is more than adequate for any web images...

If it was only a $20 camera... buy another camera for $20 if you want more pictures.

This may be only a 20.00 camera, BUT, it has a lot of great stuff, I can shoot in high-resolution or low, It has a setting for continious shudder shots, will hold 280 pictures, in low resolutiion it will hold 420 shots. I found what I was looking for thanks to Alexa. ;D

Is this it?

If so, no removabl memory card. USB computer connection. I know theres a few photo storage tanks out there for memory card downloads, just havent seen one that can d/l off a camera through a usb. Cheapest one I seen (any style) was $299.

The specs I found on this camera says there is no slot for any removable memory cards. But Best Buy has some nice point and shoots that do have removable memory cards for under $200. The only other digital camera I have other than my Nikon D70 is a Sony Mavica which uses 3.5" computer floppy disks. Generally can get 30 pics per disk. It was OK for stuff that isnt moving. Sucked taking pics of bikes at speed.
