I had the *ahem* wonderful opportunity of getting my license renewed today.  This consisted of standing for 30+ minutes in a crowded space where the smell of BO was overwhelming.  Although there were plenty of seats, there was no way I was going to sit on any of them because they all had some sort of stain on the seat.

Whoo hooo... my number is called and I can start to get this process over with.  "Place your forehead here and read the first line for me."  Ugh... Do I have to really touch my head to the machine?  That smells too...

"Stand here, focus here and smile if you want too."  Umm... the lens is chest level, don't you raise it a bit?  ** Flash **

OK, I'm legal to drive again for the next eight years.  Oh my!  What a frick'n ugly picture, nothing like getting a shot looking up under my chin and up my nose.  I think Uncle Fester looks better than I do...   ::)

Well, at least I know that any picture taken from this point forward cannot be any worse than the picture on my license.

Dawn, I get to go to the DMV in Kankakee, now.  30 minutes in line and another 15 to take care of business.  In Chicago the process can take 2-3 hours.
I think the BO and stained chairs is a Wisconsin thing.... :D
The frame was snapped, the #3 rod was dangling from a hole in the cases, and what was left had been consumed by fire.  I said, "Hey, we've got all night!"

DMV is such a bad experience in most states.  Then I moved to Florida, The tax collector takes care of it and they are everywhere.  Never a line and I get 5 vehicles done in about 20 minutes.  Mass. Texas, anywhere else I was there for hours. No insurance required on motorcycles either! And no vehicle inspection.
sorry DMV sucked for you

It took me over eights standing in line and doing paperwork and over a 4 month wait. had to return 4 times as my temp license card kept expiring for them to finish up paperwork granted it was a CDL but that was crazy plus it cost almost $300 for it.  :(

I've lived in 8 states, and by far VA has the best DMV I've been to.  Organized, clean, FAST and convenient.  They are way ahead of their time...

They're actually doing better here in Milwaukee Co. The station over on Grange is pretty efficient. Been out in around 25min on average. That's lightning speed for beaurocracy! ;D

Do or do not, there is no "try".

I renewed my DL in IL at the Waukegan DMV late on a Tuesday afternoon in 45 minutes.  I couldn't believe it - there were maybe 4 people in the whole place.

I think the trick is to avoid going the first or last week of the month... or at lunchtime... or on Saturday (unless you get there 15 minutes before they open the doors).
CCS AM 815... or was that 158?

Dawn

Next time I'm taking a day off and doing it locally in Clintonville.  Granted they're only open two days a month, but the place is cleaner and the service is faster.
