OT: Paint

Any recommendations on a good vinyl and plastic paint?

We're redoing the kitchen and going with black appliances.  Our dishwasher has the reversable panels so those have been flipped from almond to black, but I need to paint the vinyl and plastic to make it look good.

Yeah, Krylon makes a plastic specific paint that works pretty well.

Auto body stores have paint specifically for vinyl and plastic bumpers, too.

I haven't really heard good things about the Krylon Fusion.  Krylon products in general are pretty crappy.  

The 2 bewst ways I know of to get paint to stick to vinyl are with either a good primer or by heating the vinyl.  I'd definitely reccomend prepping the surface with a 000 fine steel wool and cleaning it off with lint-free rags.

Dawn, are you painting the handles of the appliances? If so, these are high use/wear areas, and you will need an automotive/industrial strength paint with the proper prep for it to look good long term.

I'll talk to Roger about what specific products you ought to use. Like Don Said, Krylon is pretty crappy, and the prep is ultra important for a professional finish.

Alexa jarred my memory.  I used a vinyl paint from the autobody store to paint some interior pieces on a car restoration I was doing.  It required a specific plastic primer that I'm sure a good auto parts/auto paint store could advise you about.  The primer actually seemed to soften the plastic when it went on.  It came out looking good but wasn't on anything that would get wear or traffic.

I'm not too concerned about wear, the others in my household won't go near the dishwasher.   ;)

I just want it to look good until it dies and I have to replace it.  Thanks for the input everyone.
