I've been builing this SV for over a year now and I'm curious as to what everybody thinks.  I decided to do all the mods to learn how to fabricate, most of what you see is hand made by me.  I don't have any formal experience at any of this (I'm a PC tech by trade) but I thought it would be fun to give it a try.

I'm also working on a GSXR front end swap so if anyone has a wheel for a 01-03 600 they'd like to sell cheap please let me know.

The bike has the following parts/mods...
Tail, tail light and seat pan are off a 72 Kawasaki H2.  The subframe is custom.  The gas tank is mostly 1985 GSXR but has the original SV base and a 2002 GSXR gas cap fitting (some pieces of sheet metal had to be used for filler as well).  It has SVS clip-ons, Acerbis Blitz headlight, DL650 handguards and custom mounts.  It also has springs, emulators, 636 shock, 97mm dog bones, cams, BMC race filter, full exhaust, carb work and 14 tooth front sprocket.  I do track days but after getting smoked on some race weekends I'm not currently racing  ;)

Looks good.  Sometimes it feels good to get your hands dirty and then have something to show for it!!

Don, that hole at the front of the tank...is that to access the nut at the top of teh triple clamp?

I think a set of wheels off a Yamaha or a Honda with more than three spokes would be cool.  I can't give you an answer how to do it...

I like the old GSXR tank.

The hole on the front of the tank is to esnure that the air box can get enough air.  I used to have tank spacers on it but they'd put the new tank up to high for it to look right.  To compensate I put the air duct in the front of the tank.

Wheels with more spokes (real spoked wheels would be perfect) but that's a project for next season  ;)

What did you weld this with?

If you welds are similar joining the two pieces of the tank, I'd worry about leaks. Did you leak/pressure test the tank when you were done?

I used a Lincoln Pro-Mig 175 with C25 gas.  Yes, the welds on the cap were defly to cold and were ground and re-welded with a hotter amperage.  The entire tank was double welded, only pin hole leaks were found.  The pin holes were touched up and the entire tank was lined with POR-15.

I did not pressure test it but it's had gas in it for about a week and there's no smell of gas in my garage or any signs of leakage.

A Budweiser welder of course! Obviously; you don't know your welders! ;D
