QuoteThe only type of protests I've seen have been:

That's pretty funny.  Was the person legal?

You never heard about the 39 1/2 rule? ;D

I was 'semi' protested back in 2003.  They claimed I was running a 750 or 1k in a 600 class.  They never filed the paperwork, so I ignored it.

They made their claim based upon the 1k forks, swingarm, and brakes on the 600.

I tried to make a scoring protest at LRRS last year--I was denied and then fined $100 for questioning it.

I always take pride in pushing the rules envelope as far as I can, I also feel I build a very fast bike... which means if someone routinely dusts me on a straight there may be something fishy going on.  Such was the case in my amateur year, this one guy would blow by my F2 like he was on a literbike and then park in the corners and hold everyone up.  I was a broke racer with no funds for a protest, but I wouldn't have protested anyway because I'd always finish ahead of him in the end.  After the season while having a few beers with the builder (who shall remain nameless) it was disclosed that the motor dyno'd @110 hp (on a CBRF2!!), had a HRC gearset, and a long list of other goodies topped off by magnesium rims cast to look identical to stock (no, I'm not kidding).  All of this to finish 5th in an AM supersport race  ???

If you think someone is cheating, they usually are.

I scoured the rules... no mention of 39.5.

What's the dealio?  I seem to recall K3 mentioning something about this a while ago.

Seems like it might be a good story in here somehere.

Hmmmm. Interesting comments. Is there a correlation between experts and novices? Are most of the "alleged" cheaters in the novice ranks?
Maybe there's a secret rule in the RB that the older you are the more handicap mods you get?  ;D

That's a good question.

I knew a guy in Colorado that was fast.  He raced AMA.  This was at a time when Commonwealth Honda was the factory team.  They would let one of there CBR600F2's go.

This guy bought one of them.  First, it didn't get the things exactly as they were raced by the fast guy.  I think he sent it down the road.

Anyway, another guy I knew from Colorado, bought a bike from the first guy and the first guy quit racing but had a shop.

Guy number two, we'll call him Dan, had this bike that he thought was legal.  He was fast, and so was his brother.  Anyway, the first guy sponsors another guy.  If Dan beat the sponsored guy, the first guy had a list of things on the bike that was in Dan's possession to protest.

The example I used was in the amateur class.  I don't know it is exclusive to amateurs, but it might be easier to get away with because of how inconsistent some faster amateurs can be week to week and track to track.  That doesn't mean they all cheat, and that doesn't mean that they are all inconsistent.

I think a few do, but most don't.  My opinion.

I have made scoring protests and visual inspection protests (class suitability).

I was going to protest an obvious cheater bike (displacement). But it blew up and the rider had to use a stock engine. He was significantly slower for the rest of the year.

QuoteWhen I asked why he wouldn't just make the protest himself, he said "Well, we're both from Chicago and we're at a lot of the races together, and I didn't want to piss him off". Uh, sorry dude, I'm not your protest biotch...

No idea who it was, after taking a couple years off I doubt I'd even recognize him...
That would have been MIKE GANTZ, FZR560, RED AND WHITE, #54.  (Keep that name in mind if he ever needs help at the track.)
Not that I hold a grudge against the spineless little weasel or anything....  He just wanted my championships.  Silly boy.  Should have known better than to covet what wasn't his.  I shared some info with him, and he tried to use it against me.  All he got out of the deal was the reputation of being a sneaky, underhanded backstabber.  He sure didn't win his protest or get my championships! ;D  Funny thing, he wouldn't have even been in a position to try stealing my championships if I hadn't helped him get his bike running earlier in the year at a critical race.  He sure did have a funny way of thanking me!
(Gee, maybe I shouldn't have said all that.  It might get back to Mike and make him mad.  I guess I'll just delete this post and go on about my business....)
The frame was snapped, the #3 rod was dangling from a hole in the cases, and what was left had been consumed by fire.  I said, "Hey, we've got all night!"
