SW rule changes F40

Starting in 2006, Formula 40 will run under Unlimited GP rules and Lightweight Formula 40 will run under Lightweight GP rules. (I want to call it the "Run What Ya Brung Old Coot Scoot".)


Lightweight and Formula 40 Class Changes: The lightweight and Sportsman classes draw too few racers for any of you to qualify for contingencies. Most require minimum grid sizes. We would like to change from having both an amateur and an expert class to a combined class in the following: All lightweight classes, GT Lights, Ultra Lightweight Superbike, Supertwins, Thunderbikes and Formula 40 and Lightweight Formula 40. Hopefully we can get the entries up, so we can split them up again in the future.

I don't know about that one; entries go up if combined?  I question that...Points accumulations in non-F40 LW/GT classes?  Confusing...

I hope they leave MW/GP the way it is.

Ok, lets say for conversations sake that these classes will be a combined Ex / Am classes. Now you have the problem of the Experts spanking the crap out of the Amateurs, in which you have to be on extreamly fast Am just to get wood or place decent enough to get contigency.

This was done before. It did not work. Why would an amateur participate in a combined class if they don't have a snowball chance in hell of winning let alone placing in the top 5 or 10 for that matter.

No amateur in there right mind would enter a class if they had to race heads up agains the Experts. I know that I wouldn't race those classes.

Or am I missing something here?

That would be my guess in most cases.  Race against your class peers, don't worry about contingencies.

In the SW our lightwieght grids have usually been too small to make the minimum numbers for contingency.  With amatuer and experts combined into one class, the grid gets big enough to qualify for contingencies.  It makes more sense to me to have at least some riders get paid than have every rider get wood.  

What's worse is the times when the AM grids were big enough to qualify for contingency and the EX weren't.  So now the faster riders weren't getting paid and the slower riders were - is that fair?

We've had the AM and EX combined in the lightwieght classes with ASMA for a couple years now, and noone seems to mind.  Every season at least one fast AM will come up and be racing for the podium.  The only complaint we've had is some CCS amatuers who came to the CCS SW / ASMA combined rounds, wondering how the points would be awarded for the CCS championships.
