Well, Jen and I are getting Direct TV installed in a couple weeks. (although she doesn't know it yet. But she wants it more than I do)

Anyway, I want it almost solely for Speed channel  I will want to record some shows, obviously.

I did want to know how long coverage of a MotoGP race is. Is it generally an hour, 2 hours, 1.5?

At the rate speed's been going, I wouldn't be suprised if it was reduced to 5 minutes of highlights at 2:00am on Wednesdays next season...

However, to answer your question, Currently, MotoGP coverage is 1 hour per race for the premier class.  Occasionally they show the 250's which takes another hour.

If you're getting the DirecTV's version of TiVo you should just be able to choose motorcycle racing in the programs to record section. It'll record everything that motorcycleracing in the title if you choose the subscription to it. I even get to watch Supermoto, 250MX, and 125MX! 8)

With the commercials, it comes to about 35 minutes or less of actual racing.

Most all of speeds races are on Sunday afternoon and Tuesday afternoon (repeating some of Sundays stuff)

Bash SPEED all you want, but if not for them, we'd have no roadracing at all to watch.

Of course, I hear one of the NASCAR dorks is replacing Brian Drebber next year calling AMA races.

I can't get their DVR because I don't have a home phone line. Not getting one just for that, either. :P

i have no home phone line, don't need one for the Direct-Tivo, they pull their schedule info from the DTV guide.

Nate R

Well, at least in my area, Direct TV online refused my DVR order unless I had a home phone line for it to download info from.  ???

I looked at local cable prices, and it ends up being cheaper than I thought as a package with the cable internet I already have, and I get the DVR. So I'm goign with local cable instead.

Also makes recording much easier, as has been mentioned.  ;D

Now the other question is: Can I record what's on the DVR by playing it through a VCR? As in, can I record it onto a VCR tape if I wanted to save something forever, but not have it take up DVR memory?

yes, DVR's usually have an option to 'save to VCR' but nothing prevents you from just doing it yourself.

I just download my clips onto the computer and burn em to DVD.

Local Cable can be more affordable, but I like being able to take a portable dish with me when I go to the track, makes afterhours more comfortable as well as console the kids with their cartoons.  Live weather reports are a benefit as well

Nate R

Understood, Crush. If I traveled more, I'd probably do the same.

Ah, OK. Yeah, putting them on the computer is probably more likely for me. Don't have a DVD burning drive, but if I could save them in a digital format I could always do that later.
