Well the Polish are asking more questions...

What spares should I look into buying over the winter??  Tools, clip-ons, levers, pegs, windscreen??, rims, tires, safety wire, anything I'm missing.  I hope to God the stock market fares well so I can afford all this stuff!!

Pete, I looked at your pics, but I can't tell what the bike has for rearsets.  If they are Vortex, get a complete extra set.  If they are Woodcraft(also marked CFM), just make sure you bring a hammer because you can bend the bracket back.  Pegs would be a good spare as they get ground down.  On the Clipons- they look good, you'll just need an extra set of bars and levers would be a good idea as well.  Body colored duct tape and some zip ties will take care of most the other things you run into.

Here are my tips:  Keep it simple with spares and extras.  You are a lot more likely to take the stuff if its not too cumbersome to take.  Also, Fully prep the bike before you go to the track(i.e. do the maintenance at home, not the track(the track is for fun)).

So where are you from?

The clipons are Woodcraft/CFM...thanks for the tips.  Im from the Chicago Southwest Suburbs, so I'll hopefully be hitting up RA, BHF, and the Autobahn.  Sorry I ask so many questions, but the earlier I learn, the more time I have to be prepared, instead of learning, and looking and buying all this stuff when it's race time.

Pete,

I know you said in another post that you wouldn't be running any races until next year.  If there is anyway possible that you could spend a day or the weekend at Gingerman Oct 8/9 it would probably be very helpful for you.  I'm jumping to conclusion here, but I'm guessing you havn't been able to spend much time at a track for a race weekend.

Now that you have the SV you could zero in on riders who are also running them.  Hang out at the track and ask questions.  There are very few riders who are too busy to talk about what works for them and the mistakes they've made along the way.  You will probably get a variety of opinions, but that's were the fun comes in.

You'll find people like AM #391 who firmly believes that Jesus wasn't resurrected - he just rode out of town on a Buell ;D

And EX#124 who rides an SV and even though he's been an EX for 2 years now, still can't live down being tagged as a YPS (Yellow Plated Sandbagger) ;D

Or EX #34 who also rides an SV and has somehow created a way for a complete competition bike to weigh less than 5 pounds ;D

An even better idea would be to spend a day as a Cornerworker - which should be a mandatory part of the race licensing requirement anyway.(IMHO)
You'll quickly see the right way and the wrong way to set up for a corner by comparing the lines that the fast guys are running to the slower riders.

Just my 2 cents!

I've got a few sprockets and an extra sharkskinz tail section left in my garage if you're interested.

Thanks guys....I've been to RA, and BHF...but I know thats still not enough...but you have to start somewhere I guess.  I got a bunch of extras gearing with the bike...but thanks for the offer, I'll let you know if I need the tail.  Thanks again!
