I just heard from my sister that my Uncle Ted was just killed by a drunk driver yesterday. I just don't see how some people don't know their limit.  :'(

Sorry for your loss...I know that's not significant right now but my thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Thanks. Now it's what to do with a doll collection that is over 100 years old, including the first Barbie Doll still in her box unsealed.  He got them from my aunt when she passed, she was the first principal of a school in IL, she used to show them off every year at my grade school. :-/

Sympahties and Condolences to you and your family.
Keep the collection and your Uncle's memories intact if you can.

The frame was snapped, the #3 rod was dangling from a hole in the cases, and what was left had been consumed by fire.  I said, "Hey, we've got all night!"

Suzy, I'm sorry for your loss and that which your family is enduring.

Since you brought it up, I'll take a swing.  The dolls..

The FIRST thing you need to do is get them appraised and insured.  You're looking at a collection that could be worth tens of thousands of dollars (or more?!).

Consider talking to doll collectors on proper care.  That could mean the difference in thousands of dollars per doll...

Long term?  Can't tell you.  Do what you feel is right.  Don't feel bad if you decide to sell them or donate them, etc.  They are yours now.

Next week my niece will lay her eyes on one of the first Barbie dolls made. She will be very excited.  She's smart, she is 11 and she told me the importance of getting such a valuable piece of history, wow.  I also have a nephew 7 who will also appreciate them.  My Uncle did not write a will for them, and his wife (my Aunt) would like nothing more for them to go to the kids.  I was in total agreement.  There are some dolls that we will appraise and most likely sell some of them on EBay. Does anyone remember or know the story of King Henry and his eight wives? She has the whole set of them with real fur, real hair, real jewels, each is hand painted and stand 8" each.  I have not seen them since I was a kid.

Thanks everyone.  :)  Will see you all at Blackhawk, leaving tonight, test and tune tomorrow.  My spirits are up and I'm ready for some racing!!!

I really appreciate all your thoughts, you guys are great!!!!!!  ;D  :-*
