I noticed it has high and low speed compression adjustments on the stock shock.

Do you think this will eliminate the need for a <insert favorite shock here> shock?

Xian_13

I really doubt it.
The rear shock would have to have Ride hieght adjustment. (differant tires change the geometery of the bike, some are major)
Also, Yamaha shocks... In the past, have only had the "click" style adjustment for setting sag.
While I can't say for sure, I really doubt Yamaha would spend alot of money for a stock shock.
One of my favorite quotes;
"If you spend more then 5 dollars upgrade this shock, you spent more then Yamaha did, making it"

It might minimize the amount of work that needs to be done if you simply have the shock rebuilt, but nonetheless, it will still need work.

The stock shock on the 06 r6 is a 4 way adjustable shock...

the stock shock will still be more than most riders will be able to use .. If you have raced more than a season consider an aftermarket like a Penske but stock stuff is not THAT bad for track days and 1st season racers. I see lots of good riders doing just fine on stock stuff, yes, you can eventually go faster with better suspension components.
I noticed in your signature and avitar photo your an AM racer. Race with the stock stuff to begin. Get the settings dialed in a bit, make sure you keep track of lap times at your local tracks. Then if you upgrade see if you go faster and by how much

Hey Scott,

Yamaha owns 51% of Ohlins.
Time will tell on the capability and quality of the stock units on the 06R6.
As a comparison, I've been on the stock 05 stuff all year with my only complaint being spring rate (not enough spring).
Since my last two bikes were set up with Ohlins race shock/fork springs etc... it has been a real learning experience.
If Yamaha wants to ie 06 R1LE Full Race Ohlins both ends, they can do alot.

Just My 2 cents

Stock shock internals are usually a little junky;  dampening just doesn't seem to be up to snuff.

Howver, we have used the stock shock in racing applications on the previous R6 for one of my former instructors with only a change on the rear spring to a Hyperpro spring.  He did 1:14's.  Stock fork internals using Hyperpro springs too.

One can, and we did on the above bike, shim the rear clevis on this R6 and move the fork tubes to raise the ride height front and rear.

LOL

unless Yamaha changes their contingency...I'm NOT buying one... ;D ::) ;D

but it does look pretty sweet...high speed and low speed adjustments on the fork could be a good thing...

Yeah, the fork thing.  That's a first.  I think the body work is a bit ugly, myself.  I'll keep my '03 unless my farm sells or something.
