Hi, I'm planning on going to Gingerman this saturday to take the Learning Curves licensing school.  Could anyone give me an idea of what to expect?

Any help, or pointers are greatly appreciated

I didn't take my new rider school with LCR, but the format is generally the same for all new racer schools.

The first part of your day will be classroom - reviewing shifting, braking, turning, and probably the instructor(s) will give you specific insight into the track (special reference points, things to avoid, etc.). They'll also go over all the different flags and what they mean, pitting in and out, general track etiquette, etc.

Then you'll get track time - usually the first couple sessions you'll follow an instructor around in a single-file line as he/she shows you the 'correct' racing line. The rest of the day usually alternates between classroom and track sessions. In the later sessions, often an instructor will follow you around for a bit, then give you feedback after the session. My school had a mock race at the end of the day, but I'm not sure if all of them do this.

Also, you'll probably have to take written test as part of the deal to get our racing license (we did with WERA, not sure about CCS).

I took lcr @ VIR last year...Alot of fun. Dont expect to much riding lessons out of it though...not like other org's. They will teach you all flags, and saftey items, every other class room session you go on the track, then they do a mock race. You'll have fun!

I took the Learning Curves school last year @ VIR, you will walk the track first thing, then class room, then a practice session, you rotate betreen class and track time. It was a fun day.

Get there the night before or with extra time to spare on Sat AM.  Have everything ready, don't come to the track with 100 things to do (or even 10 for that matter).

You'll start the day with a track walk.  School sessions will teach you the flags and boards as well as how to get on and off of the track safely.  Don't expect much more, but that is more than enough info for the day.

You will have a number of sessions on the track (I forget, but I think it's 3 or 4) and end it with a mock race.

Finish the day upright, pass the written test and you can get your license.

From there, you can race on Sun...

Mark Stiles and myself will be teaching the school at Gingerman.

We will try to do a track walk (7:30) - doesn't always work out at Gingerman.

We will have classroom in the morning. We will be covering primarily the information you will need to be able to race without being a danger to yourself or other racers.

We will have 4 sessions on the track, the last being an exibition (sp?) race. There will be some classroom/question answer sessions between on track sessions.

Have your bike ready before you arrive at the track, it will make your day (and mine) go much smoother.

If you have any specific questions feel free to email me.

I had to take the school last year at RRR because of my layoff and it was well run.  I had Dave as an instructor and dude was a riot.  Plus, any guy who shows up on his FZR 1000 street bike and muscles it around the track is ok in my book.  Like most licensing schools, there's not a lot of time to teach you how to ride, but you should have an idea alreay  ;)  He did a great job of coaching the first timers on the track and was really supportive of them.  All in all a very good experience you should enjoy it & welcome to the addiction !
