I've just started out and I need some tips.  I need to know what sprockets I should be using for an 01' F4i on the Summit Point main track.  Any suggestions?  Honestly I don't know what I have on the bike right now.

Thanks

Jeff

First you need to figure out what you have on the bike.  If you're running stock gearing and chain, you may want to consider swapping out to a 520 conversion which is far more common, and a good deal lighter than the OEM 525 stuff.

I forget what the stock ratio was on the F4i, but think it was in the 16:45 range.

A typical race starting point is -1 +2 from stock, which would be a 15:47 (assuming I was correct in my stock guess).

Summit Pt is not that big of at track, so it shouldn't require anything radical.  If you ARE on stock gearing and can't afford the entire replacement (figure $200), race it stock.

The thing you want to avoid is having to drop to 1st gear for any corner.

Hope that helps a bit.

I run an '01 F4i.

I have a 520 conversion and use 15/47 at Blackhawk, used it at Autobahn, and plan on using it at Gingerman.

Never been to Summit but if they are similar to the above, 15/47 should get you in the ballpark.

Summit has a really long front straight in addition to a really fast last corner.  You're not gonna necessarily make Blackhawk gearing work there.

Sometimes, a 520 sprocket will work with a 525 or 530 chain.  Allows you to change without paying for a new chain up front.  Was common to do on GP bikes a long time ago...

Someone should be able to give you a real answer.  Seems like one of the Beimesderfer boys races Honda's for one of the local dealerships, and they might know.

Hope that helps.

Ivan Iverson is on here pretty regularly and he is a Honda guy too.  He's a Summit point regular so I'm sure he could give you some info.

summit is a fast track, long front straight entry speed of about 90 onto that straight
usually plus 2 rear, or 1 down front for starters

I run one down in front and stock in the back on my 600 rr, and just about hit the redline in sixth on the straight.  Not sure if the stock ratios are the same though.

How did the 15/47 work at Gingerman ? I just bought a wrecked f4i and need to replace the chain/sprockets on it.

If anyone else has an idea, I do a lot of riding at Grattan with their 3200 ft front straight, so I'd like to not top it out there.

I'm not really a serious racer at this point so I'm trying to avoid having a bunch of different sprocket sets to deal with, I'd like to find a nice general setup even if it means I sacrifice a a second or two in laptimes at some tracks.
