Hey folks,

Anyone know if FRZ1000 (91-93, dual piston) front brake calipers can be used as a direct bolt-on for the 89 VMax. How about the 94 triple piston calipers?

Thx,

Mike

Shot in the dark, wow.

No VMax road racing going on.  Wish I had an answer for you.

The FZR calipers are four and six piston models also, as there are pistons on both sides of the rotor.

What you have on the V-MAX is a dual opposed piston caliper.

I was able to put 2000 R6/R1 calipers on an FZR600 front end.  They bolted right on.

The later FZR and the later Vmax take the same caliper.  So the r6/r1 calipers should go right on a later bike.

So, if the later Vmax brakes will fit your bike then the R6/R1 calipers should fit too.

I miagine that you'd want to use an r6 or r1 master as well.

The forks for the Vmax changed with the model year 1993.  Prior years can be fitted with brake calipers from R1/R6 bikes, but will require adapters.  I believe that is also the case with calipers from the FZR. For Vmax's 1993 and newer, the R1/R6 calipers bolt right on.

I refitted my 2002 Vmax with calipers from a 99 R1, and the difference is noticable. For maximum effectiveness, you will want steel braided lines though as well.

There are several vendors that offer the adapters for vmax model years 85-92 if you want to use other calipers. Boxenstopp in Florida is one http://www.boxenstopp.us/ and offers a set for $137 (part number 169a).

Hope that helped clarify.
