Brembo radial master cylinder question

I have a 19 x 18 radial master cylinder. Unfortunately I lowsided this past weekend. Everything made it through fine except something happened to the master cylinder that allows the brake lever to flop all the way forward. The brakes still work normally but I had to put a small bungie around the lever and bar to hold it back within reach.

Does anyone know if there is a clip or spring inside that I may have broke?

Or maybe this has happened to someone else and can tell me what to do to fix it.

Thanks for your help.

Thingy

Typically I have found that the lever never breaks, but the parts inside the master cylinder (under the dust seal) break.  Brembo sells a rebuild kit and that should get you back up and running.  I think the last one that I bought was about $25.

Thanks.

The lever is fine. I know something inside isn't right as the shaft that the lever pushes in to make the brakes function, comes out of the master cylinder about 1" - 1 1/2" allowing the lever to just flop back and forth. I will check for the rebuild kit.

Yeah, more than likely you broke one of two things..

There is a Screw that hold the lever in contact with the Push Rod, which also is what guides the forward/back reach lenght of the lever.

Or you broke a part of the push rod, either way you will need a re-build kit.

I keep a spare one with me just in case along w/ a replacement lever. I would get them from Yoyodyne...

QuoteThank you very much!!!

No Prob, just a warning, I would put aside about 2-3 Hours to complete the MC Rebuild. You will need to remove the MC and drain all the fluid out of it. Then you will remove the lever, and use needle nose pliars to remove the clips holding the dust cover and pressure plates on. Once off, you will drain the remaining Brake Fluid from the inside of the MC, then just reverse the process. I did find that the Greese that Brembo sent in the repair kit, did need to be used. You will put the Greese on the "Ball" of the push rod, not the "socket" that it goes into inside the MC, you will need 2 Clamp type plyers to do it w/ ease.

Then you get to re-bleed the whole system, and it is a PITA to get the MC Re-bleed w/ all that air in there.

While you are at it, you need to get one of these bad boys...

I popped off the dust cover and found the problem. There is a little plate that the shaft that actuates the M.C. goes through. The ball end of the shaft pulled out through this plastic plate. All I need to do is remove the one "c" clip holding the remaining part of the retaining plate and replace with a new one. I don't know if Brembo makes these little plates out of plastic to help minimize damage but it seems to have saved the lever and also the insides of the M.C.

It comes in the kit, all I need to do is find one by itself.

I do like the remote adjuster.  :) :)
