I use Michelin Pilot Powers for my Racing and Track Days, I have not moved up to the Pilot Races just yet, but was wondering what a good Rain Tire is, or if I even need them running the Street Powers?

Maybe have them around just incase I need them  ???

I heard from Tom Mason (Michelin tire distributor) that the street tires make a great rain tire.

You could send him an e-mail though and ask, google him using "Racin Mason" to find his web address.

Tom mason's website is at www.MasonRacinTires.com

The Powers are great for an intermidiate type of track, when there is not enough water for full rains, but it's too wet for the Power Race.

Michelin makes a great full rain tire as well.

Michelin rain tires ROCK.

Pilot Powers work great on damp to wet.

Full rains for wet to monsoon contitions.

I recomend the old style nobby rains.

The new style directional grooved work great
but are harder to tell when you are spinning the rear.

Pilot Powers front with full rain rear will work if full wet
but is a little loose up front under hard braking.

Buy new ones every year if you want to GO in the rain.

These are my recomendations.

And I know  Michelin rain tires ask anyone from the Midwest.

+1! good advice. You need a FULL rain tire in heavy rain condition if you want to be racing at full rain potential (.. only 5%+- off your dry lap times).

I got a set of used Michelin rain tires in 2002 and used them twice since the last jennings race this month and they worked great. I was only 2 secinds off my dry lap times.  The worked good enough to win the GTO Race. I got the old nobby style and i love um. They are pretty much cooked now, but if it was a down pour with puddles i would still trust them, if it was damp I wouldn't.

Stop yelling at me and wondering why I'm riding on them the tires were 100.00 with rims and Im broke.

Translation:  The only way Lonny can win is if it rains, but if it does, you'd better watch out.  That's why we call him Rain Man.  Well....  That's why HE thinks we call him Rain Man. ;D
The frame was snapped, the #3 rod was dangling from a hole in the cases, and what was left had been consumed by fire.  I said, "Hey, we've got all night!"
