:blahblah:
New to the Forum, new to MARRC.
My name is Dorsey, and I am a track-aholic.
A few Saturdays ago, my first trip to a road race course, I had the pleasure to meet Roger and take the corner worker class. Roger teaches corner worker class at Summit point. Roger is a great instructor and the track is a blast! I have worked corners 3,7, and 8. Everyone at Summit Point has been very accommodating.

welcome aboard!
and many thanks to you for joining up as a corner worker...without you - and everyone else that corner works - we wouldn't be able to do our thing! :thumb:
HEY DORSEY!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was GREAT having you out there! Are you going to be there for Memorial Day?????? Welcome to MARRC and welcome to the forum :):)

Kumi,
YES I AM!!!!
Thanks for the reply, and all your help on the track.
I will head up from the Hamptonroads area Friday. I will stop just outside of DC to visit with some "Run to the Wall" riders who will be camping out.
I should be at Slippery Pt by Saturday AM for sure. Lets hop the wind dies down a little.

Many welcomes. It became obvious to me this past weekend that without racers, we would not be able to cornerwork!

Now that right there's funny, I don't care who ya are!
Being new to the track environment, a revelation came to me this past weekend.
I took some time to consider all the work and effort that had been done in the past to bring road racing at Summit Point to the place it is now. I mean all the organizing, team work, trial and error that has been done in the past that has allowed this show to develop to the point it is today. Maybe it is just because I am at the point in my corner-work where I am sensing the coordination that must go to make the track "clear green" What ever the case it still impresses me to see so many people at on event with a similar passion.
TEE HEE - You've been bitten by the "bug" :) No matter how hot/cold/rainy/windy/tornadolike it gets out there, and as much as I HATE getting up early on the weekends, I wouldn't miss a day of corner working at summit for the world... 8)
Yup...what Kumi said!
Sorry it's a little late but welcome Dorsey to the MARRC family. You've been blessed with the "sickness". Hope you enjoy. Hope to see you out there this weekend as well for WERA.
In regards to all the co-ordination you spoke of you are right. I can't imagine what it must have been when MARRC was in its infancy and how long it took to get things worked out just right. It is amazing how well the whole crew works together though. It is sweet though to hand over to CCS a clear and green course before they even ask.
By the way this is Mike I was the voice in "Control" last race weekend and will be the voice this coming weekend as well. Hope to see you there.

Excelent! Now I can match a name to one of the voices in my head.
"One of the voices in your head"
Might not want to let us know how many voices there actually are up there in your head. :lmao:
When you are coming out next? We have a track day on July 6th and then CCS on the 7th and 8th.
Personally I'm looking forward to getting back out on the track in one capacity or another. I've had my fill of Control for awhile.
hey mike you aint had your fill just yet I'm in control for the next weekend ( July 7-8) and guess who I'm going to make sure is writing all that info down right next to me.. no just kidding hope you learned a few things from me last weekend i know i bring a little diffrent look at control then some people but i think you got out of it what you needed to. and I'm always glad to hear someone came out to MARRC and loved hit hell i got hooked 9 years ago and still come around when Simon and Kumi will let me play in their corners, hey it's a addiction that no intervention will ever get ride of. it's just life for all of us.. Allen
P.S even after a few weekends gone wild we all come home..
Okay, so I reacted to the first post I saw from you with a GLAD TO SEE YOU BACK HERE ALLEN, and maybe here would have been more of an appropriate place to post it but  and I would love to have you in my corner anytime!!!!

Listening from my quiet little alcove on the Shen....I must say, Mike, you have been doing an excellent job as control.
You've remained calm and composed in trying situations and didn't let it show at all (at least not over the net).
Maybe, just maybe, others will come over and vist me...I get so lonely...
I will definitely make an effort to get over there to visit! I am sure you can HEAR me from over there, especially when I'm working the carousel

Hey Allen,
Nope, Not me, Not in Control for the next race weekend. Doc cleared me to go play and Wendy was so kind as to assign me as an ASD for that one. I can't wait to get to play with the bikes again. I did enjoy your company and the pointers you gave me didn't go in one ear and out the other.
I for one am very excited you came back. You said you genuinely love control and given our (MARRC's) current situation with not having too many experienced people capable of doing control it is awesome you get to do something you enjoy. And as I remember you are quite good at it as well.

Thanks for the kind words Will. I try to do my best at everything I do, even things I don't enjoy. I think I'm addicted to the fumes to be honest and missed getting my fix sitting up there. It was very interesting and time does fly up there. Everything that happens you have a part in. I'll definitely come over and visit and heck we'll all be over there soon enough. Well most of us, I seem to remember Shen weekends don't bring out as many people.
I will be out of action until late September...nothing serious, just work.

I am actually quite stoked!! I don't have anything on the SC for the WERA Saturday coming up!! woohoo!!
camp out friday night...hang out in the carousel all day sat...and work on sunday...
wow..might I even entertain the idea of throwing a flag on Saturday...hmmmm
That is awesome Will, looking forward to having you back out there again. Just wish it was in Cafe, wink wink. Just kidding, we'll take you any way we can get you.
I know...Sometimes I feel guilty for stepping away from the MARRC Cafe but the chance to manage the Shenandoah Cafe was too big of an opportunity to pass up. I just wish that some of the things that were said by certain people of power didn't occur. What you ask? I was told by several people that after I resigned, someone (who will remain nameless) was telling people that I was turning down people who were offering to cook.
While I am a bit of a control freak, for the record, I never told anyone that they weren't welcome to cook. For example, last year, Tim (I think that was his name, he came with his guy friend and a girl) said he had a BBQ smoker and that he'd love to do a hog or whatever one weekend. Well they were either out of town or not avail on certain weekends. On the other hand I wasn't going to waste my time chasing people down to cook with/for me. The ones like Len, Russell and a few others that were there on a weekend-in weekend-out basis were as far as I was concerned my biggest help. Not someone who mentioned in passing that they might want to cook some weekend.
:preachon:
**rant off**
Don't feel guilty by any means. Better opportunities arose and you jumped on it. Nothing wrong with that at all in my opinion.
As far as turning people down I wasn't privy to any of that info. We are having a hard time trying to find someone but eventually we will. I remember the Tim deal with the hog and I can't blame you in not wanting to have to hunt people down. In the meantime the cafe food isn't all that bad IMHO. Co-ordinating actual times we will end to have hot pizza is another issue altoghether but we do the best we can.
Hey! I thought we had already established that there's no drama in MARRC ::) !! I don't think any one should ever, under any circumstance, be knocked for doing something that is in their best interest for themselves. You have dedicated so much to MARRC and I, for one, appreciate all you did! Unfortunately, I think it is undeniable that we lost something REALLY GOOD when we "lost" you to the Shenny. Everything you did for the cafe took time and planning way beyond the race weekends themselves. It took a committment that is (obviously) very hard to come by. I can understand why you couldn't rely on the casual passer by coming through and offering to cook. As I said, we suffered a loss, and unfortunately some people will say and do some hurtful things when suffering from a loss... This isn't the first time I have heard or experienced things being said/done that weren't quite accurate nor seemed reasonable, I'd like to chalk it up to people's different interpretations of certain things and would like to believe that there is no malicious intent behind the actions.
Just my .02 for what it's worth

I hate drama......I also miss Emerwill's cooking.
Chez Summit is not bad at all, but it's not a patch on Will's cooking.
I agree Simon, Chez Summit isn't bad but you get the same thing over and over again. Will was good at mixing it up and I honestly never had a problem finding something good to eat or there not being enough. Always stuff to take home afterwards as well it seemed.
We do miss you Will, make no bones about that.
oops..wasn't trying to hijack the thread...
so what plans does MARRC have to recruit new members? Anything going on?
Im kinda outa the loop as of late...smirk
Word of mouth in my opinion. I tell everyone I get a chance to. Anyone that will listen for like an hour that is. I talk about it too much sometimes. :blahblah: Bike shows as always and last but certainly not least, The Kobayashi's. :thumb:
I think the publicity chairman is working on some flyers and schedules. We also have those neat business cards to hand out.
Totally thread jacking now but Simon do you know if we have ever tried handing out flyers at the main gate at all. To everyone that comes in. Maybe not racers but all other vehicles without bikes? Spectators just might not have the balls to ask how to join our ranks.
it's the age old problem of 1) getting the word out and 2) most people don't want to make the commitment...
I've always said that we, as a club, need to do a better job at recruiting. Bike shows, while effective, shouldn't be the only event we recruit at. Plus we don't really have a solid 'image' that we can project to people.
Other problem is trying to recruit spectators is hit and miss. Most of them are there to party and they don't want to give up their 'party time'.
maybe we should start a new thread about recruiting and retention...
