I heard that Brian Mclaughlin crashed during the learning curves mock race. Someone said he was push starting his bike, and when he tried to jump on, he hit his boot on his transponder and crashed. I have also heard that someone has the event on film. Hurry up and post that stuff. I could use a good laugh.
:banghead:
Make sure the film gets to Gorde Lundie
Oh no... :wah:
It was McLaughlin...
Almost as good a G-Reg dropping his arsey-fiddy-one in the carousel at BHF and when he went to pick it up the adrenaline kicked in and he threw the bike over onto the other side...
It was the lightest 500 lbs. I've ever picked up :lmao:
Methinks someone might have the makings for a cool presentation for a coveted award at the CCS Banquet...

More than one. I am not positive but I think Mclaughlin may have crashed during a mock race. at least he was pushed off the track by Doc Smith or something like that
Guy
Rick told me someone crashed into him before. Needless to say that person didn't get there license that weekend. :lmao:
I guess someone might need to pick up one of these before the next school.......

Wasn't that on the front straight at Blackhawk in '02? I think it was Rick who found the shortcut to Wisconsin in Turn 1.

If they do then sign me up. I need a pair :)
I find it very odd that we have not heard any replies from Mr. Mclaughlin yet!

Brian crashed his TL on the front straight in 02. It was NOT a pretty crash. I was just walking out of the tower with a trophy and a check when it happened. Forgetting that I was now a racer and not a cornerworker, I tossed my trophy and check to someone I didn't know and ran to Brian's aid. My move broke every rule in the book, but for once in my life it turned out to ber the right move. I was able to hold Brian down while Cindy Singer cleared his airway and saved his life. That woman is my hero!

Unfortunately my 125 does not have a place to mount the transponder under the seat as on my other bikes. I felt my foot hit the transponder, next thing I knew I was on the ground. My head hit the ground so hard I wrecked my helmet.
During the summer I spend little time on message boards. I think this is the third time I have logged in since May.
On another note:
After racing 24 out of the last 26 years I have decided there are other things I would like to do.
September Blackhawk will be my last race.
(So if I get the MPHA it may be the last time it is given away)
The SV will probably be sold with all spares. Unless my wife decides she would like to ride it when we do track days.
You and Kathleen will be missed. Guy, looks like you're still in the running for that award.
So, how much for the SV?
Probably would take $6000 for everything.
Spare wheels with disks, spare subframe, 2 spare front mounts, 2nd set painted never used bodywork, crash spares, etc.
Even throw in a 12x20 canopy.

I'm so poor. :wah: Can I give you $10 a month for 600 months?
Didnt you get the memo Brian? You have to get permission from 5 racers and 6 cornerworkers before you can quit racing.
I thought you dumped the SV trying to get on. How, and I MEAN HOW tall is that 125 cause I dont think its dirtbike tall? :err:

Quitting racing will not prevent a person from receiving the coveted award
Sucks to hear that Brian! What, are you taking up knitting in your spare time now?
Hey Brian,
Just want to let you know that you helped me out a lot with the sport. You were there along with Rick Breuer, Dean Hagaman and Jason Damico to help me learn the ropes. I showed up at BHF in the summer of 2001 not knowing a damn thing about road racing and you guys helped me out and tried to answer any newbie questions I had. In fact I didn't even know anybody in the pits. I just knew I wanted to ride my motorcycle on the race track. You guys helped me feel at home. CHEERS TO THAT MAN! And thank you for all the tips and advice you gave me. Thanks for the advice you gave me corner working at Road America too. You are truely a mentor of the sport. You won't be forgotten in the pits and at the race track.
Nick Desautels
I was there and watched it from the tower. Once we saw that he and his bike were alright, the moment set in and the giggles began. THEN, when seeing the video of it, it bacame apparent, we had just witnessed a "Mr. Potatohead" award before our eyes! This year we'll hopefully be able to see the video at the awards banquette. Can't wait! :lmao:

24 years of racing!? Man, I thought I was an old timer...
After your racing sabbatical, will you come back and tell us all about the big, bright world outside Blackhawk Farms?? Then we'll try to convince you to come back and complete your quarter century of racing.
Seriously, Brian, you will be missed.
Kim - you (and I, and Don) were in that '02 mach race when Brian had the major on the front stretch. I remember the surprise when the red flag & ambulance flag turned out to be real. Good luck in future endeavors Brian.

Remember that also. Was working in turn 1 when that happened. All I saw was dust and dirt everywhere near the tower.
Brian,
Thanks for everything. The knowledge you imparted to me in the LCR class has been invaluable in my first year of roadracing. I wish I could talk you into changing your mind...guys with your level of knowledge don't come around every day. We're going to miss you in the paddock. Wherever you go, keep the rubber side down, and best wishes in your endeavors.

Guy, are you coming to Blackhawk this weekend?
Yes
I have been offered the use of a 2001 TZ250 if I would continue racing.
Tempting offer, if I would, it would be at USGPRU events only.
See... you can't REALLY quit. ;)
Admit it, Brian, You're a junkie and someone's pushin' that drug of choice.
Ah, why not? It's only a 125...
