QuoteOk, thoughts here.

The 200 being a Formula Extreme race is just not  cool. Superbikes are supposed to be the premiere  class. The 200 is supposed to be the premiere race in this country. Seperate them and you don't have what the race was meant to be.

Shall we go back a few years?

1986.

Most people don't know this, but Formula One was a racing class in AMA road racing.  It was for, at one time, 750cc two stroke GP bikes, then it was down sized for 500cc two stroke GP bikes.  There were some ridiculous prototype 1000cc four strokes too...FWS1000 Hondas...

1986 was the first running of the Daytona 200 using Superbike rules.  Eddie Lawson won that.  Been running Superbikes until this one coming up.  Similar problems previously too...tires, etc.  Nothing stays the same.

1985 was the first year as a superbike race. The year Freddie Spencer won all 3 of the main races (superbike, F1, and the 250 race - international lightweight ISTR).

John Ashmead was racing last weekend. I was pitted next to him. I talked to his crew chief and he said I am crewing for John Ashmead. I said oh. I guess he wanted me to go "WOW!! Can I touch you!!!" I thought it was funny. Ashmead was just a chillin' fella waiting patiently to race.  ;D

Yeah, I thought Freddie won.

I think I have a tape of it somewhere.  I just didn't think that it was the Superbike race...

What's with the two Daytona Superbike winners in 1985?
