So . . . umm . . . how fast was I going at Daytona if I'm running an SV 650 at redline with a 45-tooth rear sprocket?  About 120? 130?

Stock SV top speed is supposed to be around 125...

Don't give up on your dreams! If an illiterate like K3 can write a book, imagine what you can do!

Nate,

from talking about this all the way home with Pete...I had the same gearing as you and I bet around mid 130's...135 or so.  I have ram air and was hitting the limiter coming out of the banking into the tri-oval.  wished I'd put a 44 on.

Darren Danilowicz (all white #35Ex) used his GPS on his superbiked SV and ran like 149 (!!!) with a draft.

good to meet you and your Dad.  hope to see you before ROC in Oct!

With 68 dynojet HP and 15/45 I was redlining and hitting the limiter.  I still have the stock speedo which is accurate with a 70 series tire.  Yes I looked, it showed over 140mph.

With 16/46 it would hit 10,000 rpm sometimes a little more without a draft.

Travis,

you gotta get some aluminum spacers and ditch the speedo!!!

But then I'd need to buy another tach too.

so call it 130s . . . it didn't seem like 140 to me, although the flag stand did go by in a hurry.

I thought about running a smaller rear sprocket, but I only just hit the rev limiter once or twice on that stretch where it flattens out before start/finish.  The revs dropped a tiny bit when the banking kicked in again.

So . . . gearing is about right when I'm just getting to redline every now and then at the very fastest bit of the track, right?  A good balance between acceleration in the infield and top end.  I guess if you're doing more drafting you might go one higher?

A stock speedo usually has a pretty healthy amount of error unless it's been recalibrated.   ;)

Hence, why I made sure to mention the 70 profile tire which is not stock.  Unless my GPS is wrong too.

My SV has done 147 with 16/44.

Barney was turning a 17/43 with a 180 rear tire.  I dont know how fast it was but he did turn a 1:47.25 on saturday.  He beat Darren by one minute

And Barney did it for Steve. I'm sure either one of you would have won it but neither could race. So Mike did it. If anyone has more heart for this sport than him, I'd like to meet him.

MEGA props for Barnes donating his winnings.  that's what it's all about.
