Pulled the head to clean the valves and install a new head gasket on my 600rr.....reason being im just trying to raise my compression a hair and its winter and im bored.  well i received my hrc gasket today and it seams to be the same exact thickness, if not thicker than the oem.  i know its used and the hrc is not, but even the edges where it is already compressed is thicker on the hrc.  anyone have any insight or contacts that i could speak with

the part number on all the websites is 12251-NL3-750 while the part number i received from rscycles is 12251-NL3-751.  could this be HRC's oem spec gasket.  ???

ok just got off the phone with rising sun cycles......he said the 751 as opposed to the 750 is probably just a revision number or something. and not to worry, he couldnt tell me the specs between oem though >:(

The HRC gasket is thicker on both the 600RR and the 1000RR  ;)

The idea is you mill your head and then clay the it up and if you are too close you use the HRC gasket to get clearance back :)

i measured it out really carefully, it seems to be exactly the same no thicker.  i measured each layer individually.  idk its in, i didnt mill the head.  o well ???

Clarkie

get the HRC kit manual off Steve at RScycles and it will show that and a bunch of other cool stuff ;)

Chris_s

is it something he'll just give to me though? ???

i need some info on cam sprockets too...i got the ape slotted sprockets, and i dont wanna mess anything up. larry dodson told me i should talk to you about it. ???  ANY help at all is greatly appreciated

Clarkie

The HRC manual has good infor on how much to mill the head, where to set the cams etc, they are all based around the WSS rules and the one thing i didnt use was the HRC cams and ECU as i didnt want to spin the bike to 17,000rpm.

that is where the cams and ECU make a difference.  I used my own cam timing numbers and the bike made 127hp at the rear wheel on MR9  8)

one thing that did surprise me was that i had the crank balanced and it was way out, 20 grams at each end which is a lot for a 600.

ok i emailed rscycle (where i got my head gasket) about the manual.  hopefully he can help me out.   i dont really want to mill the head, i was just going to degree the cams, but if either you or him could help me out that'd be great.  Thanks Clarkie!

ps, i sent you a pm.

i just finished port n polish job on my 01 f4i im excited to get the head on and see what a differance i made i bought a head gasket from cometic gasket . checkout there website i got the .018" thick -oem-style-.$70 bucks dont get copper
stock was.025 or .028
i am a machinist for a living and even i didnt want to mill the head.
the stock casting looks like crap seats over hang and are to small for port, combustion chmbr has sharp edges and is shrouding valves at low lift and needed easing around seats, intakes needed to be radiused at rubber manifld kinda like the velocity stacks in the airbox yaknow also put header wrap on the tubes will increase exhaust flow! p.s. ya dont have to polish the shit out of it just use yourbrain and think about whats hurtin flow your rr might be a little diff  :)
