Hey,

Anyone done the Team Hammer School at Daytona?  I'm seriously considering Daytona, and a school before things get started seems the right way to go about it.  Whaddya think?

Nate

School?  You raced once.  Just enter their practice session.

But . . . Dave . . . what about the certificate suitable for framing?

Seriously -- a school is going to help me learn the track a lot faster than just open practice.  I mean . . . isn't it?  Or am I just being silly?

Super Dave

Well, good question.

The school will be full of riders that are really more there for the opportunity to ride at Daytona.  Hammer has the whole day.  Practice is practice.  You might hook up with the guys that you met at the last race and get some things figured out.

Cost too.

Giving you ideas?

Hey Nate i think a school would problaly help you out alot being if you never raced at DIS before, but the practice time is alot cheeper. Thats what i'm doin. If i had the extra $$ i would like to take an advanced school to see what i need to improve on. I never hurts to learn something new.

Definitely food for thought.

One of the reasons I like the school is the one or two sessions of "follow the leader."  I get familiar with things a lot quicker that way then in an open session where I would be hunting for the racing line while someone is closing on me going 35 mph faster.  That might be worth the extra $100 bucks to me.

If I thought I could follow folks around in practice and not have the absolute krap scared out of me ever two turns, though, that might be a fun way to do it.

Hey Nate what classes you going to be in at daytona? You are racing there...right? If my memory serves me right i believe your on a SV 650?

if you talk to the person before you go out on track follow him, you can get some feelings about how they would be. There will be plenty of people who would help you buy showing you around a bit (and probably plenty who won't). If you were on a 600 I know quite a few (me included )who would be happy to show up around and give some pointers.

I am actually helping one of my friends who is racing for the first time. I am sure you can find someone who's on a SV and show you around a couple times. My first session would be taken slowly to shake off the cobwebs and remember which way the track goes (and see the new sections) anyway. It helps that I am a school instructor too lol

Chris --

Yep, an SV.  Planning on racing it -- it looks like there are about 7 or 8 races through the weekend that I could run?  Do I have that right?  Seems like starting with Thursday there are a couple each day.  And Sunday is "if you qualify," or what?

I'm leaning toward taking the school at this point.  There will be folks to follow around on Thursday, etc., I figure, and the school folks will maybe notice what bad habits I have to fix, etc.

Now . . . do I switch to GP shift pattern?  Hmmm.

Nate

I wouldn't switch to GP at daytona. Try and get used to it elsewhere... misshift on the banking (going down instead of up) sounds painful enough
